Default LSD in Hawaii

I have a base and wondering if i'm really missing anything by not having LSD. I only drive speed limit and only open it up when I got a safe looking stretch (no other cars and on the freeway where I can see far ahead). Since we are in Hawaii and there are real no high speed driving do I need lsd? Thanks

look at all the threads regarding lsds. the real purpose of lsd's is not on the straight-away, but on highspeed turns... An lsd will not make you quicker on the straightaway so unless you're gonna auto-x your car I would say a lsd is unnecessary.

agreed with Blazed. Unless you really are going to track the car (as in autoX) ...not needed. Infact it will save you money by not having to flush out the rear end more frequently and you wont have to worry about clutch packs wearing out. Also will probably save you from crashing into a wall from snap oversteer when the opposite side engages suddenly.

What you wont be able to do are things like donuts...and full on drifting......but....then again.....those things are a little over-rated and just a tad bit illegal on the public roads.

There is no sense in modifying "your" vehicles then having a person complain about issues of the such from said modifications. Soooooo....in my opinion.....just leave it as it is. Not needed currently in your applications.

from a drivability perspective it makes alot of noise and you might have a little bit of some "skips" when trying to park. idk thats how i can best describe it.

Depends on which LSD you go with. Carbonetic makes a clutch type LSD that is essentialy noiseless and will be very streetable.

As far as sudden loss of control goes, I dont know about you guys but i would love to have both wheels have tracktion an be able to predict precisly what my car will do. If anything it will make your car safer.

I would recommend a Carbonetic LSD for anyone, no matter what kind of driving you do.

Since you have a base you will greatly bennifit from ANY kind of diffy. You will notice it in your turns and some spirited driving. But for the acceleration stand point you may be confusing final drives with diff's.

I went from a OEM VLSD to a Tomei Tecnitrax 2.0 way LSD. Yeah that **** is crazy. On slow speed turns your inside tire drags and chirps because its wanting to lock up and go straight. Thats more in the lock settings than any thing.

Check out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_slip_differential for more information that may help you.

Thanks for the info guys, as everyone knows rain is just around the corner. You never know when it'll rain (like tonight after I washed my car ) I get hesitant on pounding um on the freeway. I did more research on this and I think I'm gonna save up for a Quaife. or if I ever run into a Stock VLSD in the pumpkin for cheap I may pick that up instead.

i had lsd on my old supra... don't have it on my base z... you can definitely feel a difference of not having lsd. even if for normal driving i recommend lsd. if you're not drifting a 1.5 diff is probably the best way to go. im currently saving up for a cusco.

april showers bring may flowers

yeah and even the OEM VLSD is an upgrade from the base diff. If your staying NA change the gearing on the diff while its out and you will notice a HUGE acceleration diffrence. Spuper street did a head to head run with 2 professional drivers and 2 Z's. One with the ATI with base pulley and the 3.9 final drive.

The final drive out preformed the SC every where except the the straights. I cant seem to find the article but I'll keep looking. The article had detailed time results and both drivers switched cars. Both times; if I recall correctly, the final drive beat out the SC due to the corner speeds.

A quaife under conditions where one wheel is getting no traction ie rain, snow, or gravel the other wheel will get very limited traction is any. Clutch type LSD allow both wheels to get 100% traction under all conditions, even if one wheel is completely off the ground the other will still have full power. And with a unit like Carbonetic it will still be very street friendly and noiseless.

Havnt dragged it any, but it pushes like crazy in high speed turns. Its soooo stable and predictable in the turn. Wth the OE LSD it as almost as if I was dragging the *** through the turn because the power wasnt going to both wheels, and it was some what unstable at the higher speed turns.

With the power going to both wheels you feal the power planting evenly and pushing you through the turns. Verry stable. For drags you want close to a 100% lock.

I have about a 65% to 70% lock.
