Hello guys, I've been searching for a nice point and shoot canon digital camera, however there are so many to choose from. Does anyone recommend a specific model? I have my eye on the SD900 but I'm not sure. Thanks.

I've had the SD900 for a couple of months now and i'm very happy with it. It has tons of features and the construction is pretty sturdy compared to some of their other models. I don't think you'd regret purchasing one.

I think the SD800IS has some issues when ISO is 400+, the images just aren't as sharp. I'm sticking with it instead of going back to SD700 because it has more features and let's face it, it's just a point/shoot anyways

i also found the powershot A640 and it is 10 megapixels as opposed to most of the other canon models which are 7.1 megapixels. do those 3 megapixels make that much of a difference? thanks again guys.
well the mp ratting is important but the size of the picture is important also. for example,
camera x can do a 2200x1700 picture at 6 mp max
camera y can do a 1500x900 picture at 10 mp max
if you take camera y and try to make the picture *** the same size as x you loose quality. Quality/detail will improve if camera x uses smaller picture. So a picture in 1500x900 in camera x might look better that y.
In short mp is not all you need to look at. it the processor, picture size capability, etc. One of the reason a Canon Rebel XTi cost more than other but is only a 6.1 mp camera.

6mp - 10mp it doesnt matter, you never print a big enough print for that to come into play, it mostly marketing reason behind the huge MP numbers. Trick people into spending more because they think the extra 2 mp is going to make their pictures better
I prefer the Canon A-series like the 640 or any of the lower numbered one, depends on your budget. I however think the 640 has OIS so I would go for that one.
I still have a old A530, that I use more then my Canon Rebel, image quality is about the same at normal printed,/viewed resolutions.
BTW dont let some guys talk you into buying a dSLR, a mid-grade PnS can capture everything a expensive camera can.

i have the s3 IS, i love it, it pulls some awesome shots, but i'm already saving up to buy myself a DSLR. imo, megapixels = an easy way for a salesman to sell a camera to an unsuspecting customer. you would never print someone big enough for there to be a large difference on anything over 6mp. the main problem i have with my camera is that anything ISO 400 or above on my camera is full of noise, and even then, 200 is a little shotty.
