Default Camera Guru Help!

Alright this is such a stupid question and I am sure there has been posts like this before...

but anyways My birthday is coming up and I want to buy myself a camera - nothing too outrageous - But I want to know what is the best camera to start off with? I have never done anything like this before besides with those cheap kodak cameras. I really want to learn and practice.

But any Ideas of what would be a good camera to start off with would help!

Thanks for putting up with me being a NOOB <3

To be honest I would like to stay under 250.00 but I know with a range like that you are not really getting too much of a selection... but I am not a pro

$250 isn't going to buy you much. What purposes will you be using the camera for?

Are you looking to start getting into photography or do you want a simple point and shoot/slim camera for daily usage?

I know it isnt going to get me much, and it doesnt have to be a new one either, I want to get in to photography so I want something that I can learn the basics off of and then once I get better and know if I really like doing it then I can drop more on a better one. I want to pick up a new hobby and I always wanted to try, so like said doesnt have to be a brand new top of the line just something to start off with to learn a thing here and there...

For $200 I sell you my Canon S3 IS w/bag and 3 memory cards ( They are different but one of them is 1GB). It is 6 Mp and it a point and shoot with some capabilities of a SLR. I like it but I'm moving up to a full DSLR. I learned to do most of my shots with this camera. If you want to have like wide angle shots or expand your zoom, all you have to do is get the attachments. I also have the original box with all the books. You also use it as a regular camera.

Look here for some shots

Then read the sticky I have on this section and it will give you some tips on how to make the most out of the camera and pictures. If you want to do more than cars then here are some samplers

Sorry don't mean to sound like a car salemans.

You may want to consider "investing" in an entry level DSLR then. sure, it'l cost more. the good part, though, is that if/when you want to upgrade your lenses...they will work with other bodies (as long as they're the same brand).

most people here start off with the canon rebel xt/xti or nikon d40, etc.

If you want a point & shoot and don't mind a larger one, the Canon S3/S4/S5 series is worth looking at. Canon P&S cameras will generally have the lowest image noise when compared with some of the other brands (ie Panasonic, Samsung, Nikon, Kodak, etc).

If you want to get into a dSLR, you'll probably want to save up more. Even the older entry level bodies will cost $400 used and expect to spend another $400-600+ on some decent lenses, camera bags, filters, tripods, etc.
