Easiest way is to take RAW photos and edit them in raw form on PS.

cs2 should be able to process d70 raws....did you update your raw camera formats for cs2?
if all else fails, grab the Adobe DNG Converter...it's a lossless raw converter that reads all raw files. Just convert the nikon format to .dng, then open the DNG file in cs2.
cs3 has direct support for more recent raw formats (like my D80).

Search for "Camera Raw 4.2" which is the latest update from Adobe. It has Canon 40D support and some new features such as the "Clarity" slider which adjust midtone contrast.
You pretty much can do all your processing with Camera RAW.
Lightroom uses the same adjustment sliders and that is in Camera RAW... pretty much exactly the same, except Lightroom lets your organize and view with style.
