Default Sunset pics

Retried the sunset pics again, this time with flash. I got varying degrees of success... Judging from the results, I will need a backlight to eliminate the shadow from the key light, and maybe another key light to light up the rear end better.

I'll try the IR on the 580exII to trigger a 430ex. We'll see how reliable the triggering is. If not, I guess it's more $$$ into the gear pit and go with the PWs.

I hope I get a better cloud formation the next time.

Awesome pics, I agree, another soft light source to the rear of the car and hopefully getting rid of that shadow would make the photo perfect. Very nice shots though!

nice shots! i've been reading up a lot on your past threads, looking for key tips to keep in mind.

EDIT: number 2 is my favorite, the sunset is a nice contrast against your ride, and the lighting appears more uniform, without casting an obvious shadow.

2 is pretty sweet man. On 1, the brakes are a little too well lit, giving a strange look. Overall a good set though.

i'd suggest one to your immediate right, highlighting the front 1/2 of the car, one more to your far left, highlighting the rear 1/2 of the car, and one more behind the car to illuminate it a bit.
just a thought, would love to see how it'd turn out.

I'm using a 580EX to trigger a 420 and 430EX with good results. It takes some practice until you learn what distance and what angle to light the car, but once you get it down, it's pretty easy. Here's a shot I took yesterday (430EX on the left and 420EX on the right, 580EX straight on)

It was really cloudy yesterday so the colors were dull and flat until I used the speedlites. Most wouldn't be able to tell that strobes were used unless they look at the lighting on the wheels, which is too dynamic to be from natural light.

Here's an alternative to the PW for $25 http://radiopopper.com/model_jr.php
