I had a buddy behind the wheel and I walked with the camera just to make sure everything stayed in place. I used the self timer to fire the camera. I really need to shoot the pics with the engine off and the car coasting in neutral to eliminate vibrations.

I've spent about $200 so far to build the rig. I'm going to build another one that clamps under the car. This particular rig mounts on top of the car with suction cups.

This is the view with the camera mounted on the rig.

no more than 5 minutes was spent on PS'ing. I spent more time adjusting camera levels than I did erasing the rig.

Wow nice, I would think that when you take a picture the rig will be part of the body but its not, nice rig.

I spent $106 for two. I've got about $135 in other materials for this rig as well. I didn't need to spend quite that much, but I'm a poor planner.

I also just ordered three industrial magnets that I'll use to build a different kind of under car rig so I can shoot higher angle shots.

So am I. I simply used the "healing brush" tool.

Nice thread and nice results! Is all of the suspension and wiring on the rig absolutely necessary? That thing is pretty tall!

My buddies rig isn't that complicated. You're assessment of having the car in neutral is right on. That's how my buddy did my shots.

I added the "spar" in an attempt to dampen the "spring" of the rig. My first test rig didn't have it and I wasn't happy with the results. The spar doesn't need to be quite that tall, I was just too lazy to cut the 3' section down.

How long of an exposure did you use, and did you use any filters?

you should be using the magnets. the suction cups should only be used for shots like:

where there is practically no distance from the camera and the car. with the suctions cups and the long arm, that 5 pound weight of the camera will turn into what feels like 20-30 pounds quickly, and can deform the surface of the car.

and turning the car off is the best. get it moving, coast it in neutral, and use a remote if you can. will give you the best outcome.

I'd have to review the exif data but I think on this shot I used a 1.5 second exposure. No filters but I did punch up the shot in Lightroom.

That's my plan. I've got a couple of locations in mind. I also want to set up some additional lights to really do the car justice. I can fire the camera via a pocket wizard and I plan on locking up the mirror as well.

I just need to find the time now to do it!
