again last night at a bit longer focal lengh. 840mm (600IS + 1.4TC)

I don't use Auto White Balance on this shot.

by the way, if you want to shot moon, do it under manual mode.

lol, i have D40 and kit lens.. and yes i shoot in manual/raw mode.
1 question. is that kind of shot possible with my body? what lens would i need for a shot like yours?

yes you can with your D40. You can get some decent shot with Nikon 70-300 plust 2xTC.
