Default The Canon Talk Thread- All Things Canon Related!

saw there was a nikon thread so i wanted to start a canon one. anyone else shooting with canon? i bought my canon xs in march. current lenses are:

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
EF 50mm f/1.8 II

pretty basic collection of lenses but i'm still learning and collecting. the 50mm is a steal! very sharp lens and very shallow depth of field when shot wide open. i've been trying to learn as much as i can from the photography-on-the.net forum. a lot of good canon specific info and you can catch some good deals there on photo gear.

Congrats on your XS. My buddy just got one.

For me: 40D with a 50mm and the kit 28-135mm. Also 430ex flash. Good chance next on the list will be the 70-200 f/2.8.

Hold out on that 7D. Canon stated that there's a ghosting problem that sometmes occurs.

ah ok, that makes sense, in other words there's a hint of the last image taken on the new image usually when underexposed and bumped up to compensate basically?

I've seen the knock off versions selling for $90 while the Canon for about $110-120. I'd go with the Canon for a few $$ more.

Thinkin about getting a 500d or 7d.

My question to you all is do i really need 7d which provides 8fps and ISO of 6400 or the 500d that shoots 6fps and ISO of 3200? There is a like $600 price difference

I plan on shooting mostly cars at meets and few potraits and golf stuff.

i would rather save the $600 and buy a nice lens. for your needs, the 50d would be a great camera.

A cannon is any tubular piece of artillery that uses gunpowder or other usually explosive-based propellants to launch a projectile. Cannon vary in caliber, range, mobility, rate of fire, angle of fire, and firepower; different forms of cannon combine and balance these attributes in varying degrees, depending on their intended use on the battlefield. The word cannon is derived from several languages, in which the original definition can usually be translated as tube, cane, or reed. In modern times, cannon has fallen out of common usage, usually replaced by "guns" or "artillery", if not a more specific term, such as "mortar" or "howitzer".

First used in China, cannon were among the earliest forms of gunpowder artillery, and over time replaced siege engines—among other forms of aging weaponry—on the battlefield. The first hand cannon appeared during the 1260 Battle of Ain Jalut between the Mamluks and Mongols in the Middle East. The first cannon in Europe were probably used in Iberia, during the Reconquista, in the 13th century, and English cannon were first deployed in the Hundred Years' War, at the Battle of Crécy, in 1346. It was during this period, the Middle Ages, that cannon became standardized, and more effective in both the anti-infantry and siege roles. After the Middle Ages most large cannon were abandoned in favor of greater numbers of lighter, more maneuverable pieces. In addition, new technologies and tactics were developed, making most defenses obsolete; this led to the construction of star forts, specifically designed to withstand artillery bombardment and the associated siege tactics.

good question, i was (and still am for a few more weeks at least) shooting local sports, the sensor size helps by simulating more zoom than i actually have due to the "crop factor". plus 8fps vs my current 2.5 means the difference between getting a good shot and getting a great shot when shooting burst mode. plus 6400 ISO useable images means i don't need my flash, even with my f/4 zoom. i have since decided to keep my 5D and just save for the 7D as my 2nd body. think that's a knock out combo till I can drop the coin for a 5dmkII later on down the line

I got my XSI for Christmas and have the kit 18-55mm and a 75-300mm lens...

I just need a photography class I think... I couldn't tell you how to work half of the settings on it... I just kind of figure things out as I go.

photography-on-the.net is a good forum though... I do alot of lurking over there...
