Default Recommendation for entry level DSLR

I need to get a new camera, i used to have Sony DSC-5, and now i feel i need to get into SLR stuff.

i prefer Canon, but wouldn't mind a Nikon, and i would like something that is cheaper to maintain and upgrade if needed (i know they ain't cheap to upgrade, but the cheaper between the two brands).

suggestions please.

thanks

I'd say either d5100 and d7000 depending on your budget. Both have great low light performance.

Get a used Canon 40, 50D, 60D or t3i around $400-$700 range and get some nice used lenses. No need to buy new stuff.
And when you're ready to upgrade to professional dslr (full-frame), you can sell your old stuff and won't lose much money.

I have a Canon 40D, and it's a good dslr for beginners. Also join photography-on-the.net for tips and find good deals in the classifieds. Good luck.

Canon Rebel Ti3, it basically a Canon D60 at half the cost. the D60 just has a few more bells on it.

I have two Canons.
  1. 10 Year old Canon Rebel Xt (6 Meg). Still works Great. Took the attached photo last night with it playing around. 30 sec exposure.
  2. New D60

Why are you getting a Canon D60? That thing is 10 years old and has only 6.3mega pixels and ISO up to 1000!

Get a Canon T3i or 60D instead.

As far as lenses, what types of photography are you into: portrait, landscape, sports, macro, etc?

Sorry, my bad.. i meant 60D.

anyways, i went to have a look at the different models and the seller convinced me to buy the 550D and i did..

as for lenses, i'm interested in portrait, landscape and macro..

i need some filters as well, but dunno what's available and which does what. i think i need to do more research on those.

Just get the latest entry level cameras. Doesnt matter if it is a Canon or a Nikon as long as you feel comfortable with its button layouts and ease of use. The end result of the picture is still up to the user.

Decide later on which lenses you NEED depending on the type of pictures you usually take.

Good luck MAX!!
I'm pretty sure you're buying the cam so you can shoot the Z!!

My suggestions to compliment your 18-135 lens:

portrait lenses: Canon 50 1.8, Sigma 50 1.4 or Canon 85 1.8
landscape lenses: Canon EF-S 10-22 or Tokina 11-16
macro lenses: Canon 100 2.8 or Canon 60 2.8

Thanks.. i'll look into their prices, if they're within budget, then i might go for 1 or 2 as a starter.

I like my D3100. It's pretty easy to use, but the photos and videos have been great.

I'm just using the kit lens but hopefully I'll pick up a good macro and zoom for Christmas.
