Hey guys this is Doug from TopSpeed.

Just wanted to make a comment about those saying this car is laggy.

Its a common misconception when looking at high hp graphs that the car is laggy. It just appears to be laggy because of the high hp numbers being shifted to the right of the powerband. What everyone doesn't notice is that this car is making over 300ft/lbs of tq at 4k rpms, and over 500ft/lbs by 5k. Giving you a huge power band since the rev limiter is set at 8200rpms.

Just to show everyone what I am trying to say here is the Gamermodz 350's dynograph overlayed with a mild bolt on 350z. Notice that above 2800rpms the car is making more power.

Which one would you rather drive

Doug

Silly noob question, but how are you gonna transfer that much power to the ground? I see the modded G diff - what are the details? Is it LS or welded? And what tires do you plan to run for track and street?

I would imagine that past a certain WHP number, any additional power is useless on a 2wd chassis unless it's heavily modded. Any plans or considerations for an AWD setup?

Congrats on an awesome feat of engineering regardless.

Hey Doug, 300ft-lbs at 4000 rpms is laggy with a 4.2L and crazy heads!!! You are not comparing apple to apples.

typical 4.0L strokers with 60-1 sized turbos are making 500-600 ft-lbs at 4000rpms.

Its in here somewhere. They do not plan on running it at high WHP. I think they said it will be tuned for @500whp for track use

there's nothing wrong with laggy, I guess I was just surprised that smaller turbos, +20% more displacement, and 37% more flow in the heads didnt left shift that curve much at all compared to 3.5L high powered cars (Sound performance, Injected, myself...)

Being a time attack car, I wouldnt think you'd want such and on/off power sweep inside a few hundred rpms.

Correct. That spool up will make it impossible to keep the tires under the car. I do believe they are doing some type of traction control, but it will have its hands full to the max.

every time I see a thread with a dyno like this and the owner/shop promises that they have a trick that they haven't employed yet to shift the curve to the left and speed the spool up it never seems to materialize. That annoys me.

we've got quite a few things done. Once we can get her back on the dyno, we're confident we'll see an improvement all across the band. Should do very well.
