So I got an "Illegal U-turn" Citation the other week in Norcross. There were only 4 signs that said "No U-turn Allowed" I still think it was weak, cuz it was on a Sunday morning, on a quiet road with no cars around, but whatever...

I called and they saids its gonna be 3 pts on my license. The fine is only $95.00 which I am willing to pay, but the points on my license would be less than stellar!


Anyone have any credible insight about what I should do to avoid the pts on my license?

My court date is at the Norcross Municipal Court next Wedn. April 19th. Thanks!

you can take defensive driving class, for like 60.00 bucks
and it takes 3-6 points away, ..

 

21 yrs old, clean record, and I live 2 hours from where I received the ticket, but that still might be worth it? Do you know if they make you do it right away, cuz May, June, & July I am gonna be in Charlotte and there is no way I would be able to drive back and forth...

 

Have you gotten any tickets before, if not, do not pay the ticket go to court and plead "NO LO CONTENDRE" or no contest. THis doesn't mean your not guilty, but it will get your ticket off of your record, but you will still have to pay the fine, or they may make you go to defensive driving which is less than you ticket and you will get a break on insurance, that's what happened to me.

Hey at least they didn't catch you ridin' dirty. Sometimes simply going to court the judge will eliminate the points. Some states do eliminate points if you go to an approved driver safety class. The judge does not have to though, it's purely discretionary.

 

My lawyer says he can take care of it for $500. Is that reasonably fair?

 

WHY WASTE $500, when all you have to do is take it to court, a fraction of the cost and no points!

 

The lawyer can't help you in this case any more than you can help yourself. Now if it was reckless driving or DUI, definitely bring a lawyer. This is a relatively minor infraction, and you won't go to jail for it. If you have a clean driving record and do the class ahead of time, the judge will typically reduce the charges, reduce/eliminate points but he will take your money. That's why you're there in the first place (so the locale can generate revenue).
