Stacy - Already signed up for NASA's Rockingham event at the end of October, so I can't justify driving all that way twice in two weeks. See you at the next one.

I just read on the THSCC website that:

"Harness bars may be used, but they cannot be the mounting point of harnesses. They can only serve as a guide to ensure proper alignment with the ralation to the shoulders and to ensure they cannot slide off the shoulder."

So does that mean that my BCR harness bar, that mounts to the original seat belt mounting points with wrap-around style harnesses cannot be used at this track event?

I know 350Z's with the BCR harness bar have run in the HPDE groups before.

I'm sure Marty and/or Stacy will chime in with a more "offical" answer.

The short answer is no... HOWEVER... Sean says he knows of some that have run our events before, so they either passed one of our techs, or they slipped by unnoticed. So here's what I'd like to do: I'd like for you to meet with our chief safety techs so they can look at the bar 1st hand and we can determine once and for all, and officially, if it meets our requirements.

As hard of a time as I've given EnthuZ over the years, I will admit that (to my knowledge) we've never teched one.

I'll send you a PM shortly and we'll get something set up.

I do but the hardware for the clips is in hickory at my parents house, so I guess I have to go pick that up.

LOL ... ok, well screw being diplomatic then... I showed the website to our tech guy, and initially he was thinking it looked good.... and it does look real good from a front impact standpoint. One thing he brought up though, and I hate I haven't thought of it from this angle... is what would happen in a REAR impact? (Backing it into a wall or being rear-ended at high speed as two examples)

If using stock seats without any back brace... there's a very real chance that the seat back will colapse rearward, and looking at the pictures it would seem that would put the headrest (in other words the head and neck) in direct contact with the bar. Depending on the severity of the impact, this could be fatal.

We still want to look at the bar, to see if there would be any adjustment that would lower it so it would be just below the shoulder line... essentially becoming its own seatback brace (so long as the belts don't drop below a 20 degree angle in relation to the shoulders.)
