This is an event that Darrel and I are seriously considering. Free track time at an exotic SW road circuit? Any other Colorado Z pilots interested in going? We'd have to leave next Friday to make it there in time and I realize this may be hard to swing. What a spur-of-the moment road trip this could be!
^So, your the Dave that I was told would try to be there from Sport Z. Hope you can make it. I did talk to Art about coming out to the meet and doing some smoozing. So, he should be there.
It would be nice if you could make it out and bring some CO guys with you. -jamey

There are actually two 'Daves' who work for Sport Z. Art may have been referring to Dave Bexfield who is the Editor for the entire magazine. In any case, it would mark the first time we all got together!

Throw in the timed laps with inexperienced drivers and I think it could be a recipe for, at the least, some dinged cars. Perhaps the organizers of the event have some other plans, but I'll try to talk with them before everything gets underway. Not sure if it will do any good, but I gotta try...
It isn't up to the ones hosting the event on how many can be on the track at a time, it is the rules stated in renting the racetrack for the day. They only allow 2 drivers at a time. Their rules not ours.

IMHO that's a mistake- it's better to give everybody a lot of laps and learn where the line, braking points, etc. are. We've done this a lot in our past 350Z track days by playing "follow-the-leader" at a reduced pace. This allows everybody to get comfortable with the speed and learn where the especially tricky spots are. It also allows for everyone to learn at their own pace.

Can you talk to the powers that be and get it so we can run like most roadcourse track day events.
have 2-3 groups, group one goes out for 10-15 cars at a time, for 20 minute increments, then group 2, then group 3...
the whole times thing i think is a mistake, i totally agree with dkmura; this is a recipe for disaster...we need to get out on the track and learn the limits of our cars, not compete for times (maybe have a series at the very end of the day to compete for times, after we are familiar with the track)
can you do anything here?

As stated on the Sandia Motor Speedway website:
"Anymore than two drivers per time on the track requires additional insurance and possible ambulance. SMS reserves the right to evaluate the requirements of each track rental."
The key word in there is "possible" not manditory for the ambulance. Heck, charge us all a little extra to offset the extra insurance.
If you race for 7 hours straight without breaks, each driver will get 2 sessions of 3 to 4 laps each if you have 40 drivers.
If 10 cars are on the track at one time you will have 4 groups of 10 driving 20 minutes each for 5 sessions over that same 7 hour period.
I'd be happy with 3 sessions and taking a lunch break plus looking at all the other cars and enjoying the event. I'd even pay extra for the insurance.
Either way, it doesn't matter to me, I'm going anyways even if I didn't drive at all.

every road course event i have ever gone to has had an ambulance, i just assumed that was a standard

The problem was that the ambulance service was somewhere around $100-150 per/hr. Which would almost cost as much as the track did for the day. Maybe next year we can work on this issue. As for now lets all come out and have a good time on Sat. We'll all still get a chance to get on the track and tear it up. -jamey
