new track info
Myspivey,
The argument you speak of was not so much about making money but not loosing money in supporting the new track. The club members are concerned about an initial investment becoming a recurring investment of good money following bad. The point of a track day making money was used to indicate the amount of support that the track days have both in club members and non-members. The object of the club is not to make money but to support a hobby and at the same time remain solvent so that pursuit can be continued. I'm sure your club at DU was successful but I didn't hear you mention an event such as a track day with the attendant overhead.
David's event are usually run as a "catch as catch can" affair are dependent on a certain number of people committing to attend. When the tracks are in more demand they are going to command greater and greater fees and a much longer lead time to reserve and hold track availability. If some people cannot attend and the day falls through the tracks will not be very forgiving. The other factor to consider is the situation now presenting itself at La Junta where the city is no longer insuring the track but probably going to demand the renting body provide it's own insurance. This is not cheap and will raise the costs involved and probably not be available on a event by event basis.
The reason we have the Multi Car club is to spread these kind of costs across a greater contributor base because the smaller clubs simply cannot afford to underwrite the costs. How do you propose to do this with a non dues paying club when the dues doesn't completely support such activity now? The costs are presently climbing (more than doubling in the past year) and I don't see them coming down. The one major goal of CAMA is to provide a new track with 75% of the usage of Second Creek at something close to the old costs. It will not be cheaper.
One last point if you please. I don't think the dues involved in the Z club are huge by any stretch of the imagination. I am not saying we are at the same level as other clubs. I think we have lower dues than other groups and I think they are quite reasonable.
If you would like to have some input come to a meeting and you will be heard, even as a visitor. I will be there if you would like to discuss this in person. This forum is much too inconvenient. My name is Craig Williams and I am at all the meetings.

Things went well at the meeting last night. A little more information came from the books which pretty much showed that the last 5 yrs more paid for more than what the club has put into the track including what is being asked for now with the new track.
50 members showed up. I'm not sure how many normally come to the meetings, maybe from 25-35??
Hopefully by sometime in January we will have good news about the zoning and use permits from the county commissioners, then the ball can get rolling with funding drive.
Once again the z club has their foot in the door for a new amatuer road track when/if it becomes a reality. While other clubs that weren't already a part of CAMA will be outside looking in.

From what I understand, the actual county board meeting will be toward the end of January.
