Final Update
Just wanted to post back and let everyone know how this turned out. I went up to the shop today around lunch to pick it up. It looks PERFECT. They did a full detail on it, hell it looks better than the day I took it home! I couldn't be happier with the end result, you can't tell at all and the new spoiler install looks great, nice and tight and nice and clean!
They also gave me one free full synthetic oil change and a t-shirt (love t-shirts!) so I'm quite happy. Ted and crew and won me over - I also spoke with Bob (the service manager I think) who was very appologetic, especially about the way the guy handled it when it happened.
So all-in-all I'm happy again, sure was nice to get to drive my Z again :-)
UPDATE
Just wanted to let everyone know that I spoke with Ted today and I should have it back, "good as new" tomorrow by noon. Fingers crossed...
Hello everyone, this is my first post here but I'm sure it won't be my last.
So I'm a new Z owner, as of 2 weeks ago. I've wanted a Z for as long as I've been old enough to want a car - probably going on 20 years now. I finally decided to take the plunge and got a brand new 07 black touring edition from Boulder Nissan (in Boulder, CO) 2 weeks ago. To make a long story short I think my car is cursed.
The latest thing in a saga of issues (clear bra installed wrong, bumper scratched by clear bra guy, new clear bra installed, doesn't look great, problems with the install of my radar detector, etc, etc) is my spoiler. When i got the car I ordered the spoiler to be installed later - later being this Saturday (yesterday). I took my car in around 9:30 and at about 11:30 they let me know it was done, err, the spoiler was installed but the "gashed" the back deck when doing it.
Now I know that things happen, that people make mistakes but I almost lost it. After I left I realized what really pissed me off, it was their attitude about it. The service guy hands me 2 cards and say "here, just take it to these body shops and they will fix it - sorry about that". SORRY ABOUT THAT? And they want ME to have to deal with it. Uh, sorry NO. So I got my sales rep, laid into him and told them I'd bring the car back on Monday morning at 7 a.m. so they could deal with it. They said fine.
Now, again i want to be clear I'm not bashing Boulder Nissan over this, not yet anyway. So far they've been good (other than the tough crap attitude this one guy had) and I assume they will fix it all up tomorrow. This leads me to the question in my long rant (sorry about that). The question is what should I ask them to do and what should they do to compensate me for this.
Here are my thoughts, but you guys tell me what you think is fair. If you happen to be one of the guys at Boulder Nissan please let me know.
- I want them to obviously repaint it, but what I really want is the entire hatch removed and completely repainted so there are no "blending" issues. In short I want it to be done the most perfect, slow, expensive, pain staking way so that my brand new car looks like the brand new car that is it. In short it MUST be perfect. I don't want any spot sanding, etc.
- I want them to clean up or clean off all the glue you can see under the spoiler. I didn't notice this until I got home and realized even if they hadn't scratched it they did a terrible job installing something so simple.
- I want a FULL detail so that when I get it back it looks like the brand new car that it is
- I'd like "a few" synthetic oil changes ($60 a pop). They can fill in "a few".
Am I going to far, wanting too much? Is it too much to want you 14 day old car to be perfect when they made the mistake?
Thanks for your time, sorry again for the long post...

I think your best bet is to get a hold of the Boulder guys (They are on this forum and a big supported of mile high z) and let them know the story. We happen to know the owner of boulder nissan so im sure if you talk to him in a clear and friendly manner he would be more than glad to work with you and make things right. Thats what they have always done and from how most people talk around here take better care of their people than most dealers do. Sorry to hear about your bad luck! Let us know if we can help ya in anyway.
if you have them paint the hatch, its gonna be hard for them to 100% paint match it to the rest of the car. its better for them to just respray the portion that needs to be fixed. even if the blend isnt 100% its gonna be hard as hell and i mean impossible to tell. i wouldnt have them respray the entire hatch, you'll most likely regret it.

Wow, I was expecting a reply, just not that fast!
Myspivey, thanks for the advice and info - I do plan on being a calm and nice as I can with them - as I said so far they were good (other than the one guy) so I'm hoping the do the right thing.
Nexx, thanks for the advice on the paint - so if it were your car you really wouldn't do the entire hatch? Just too much to do, to much chance for error since it's a bigger area? I get what you're saying, I just want it to be PERFECT - hell my car doesn't even have 400 miles on it yet!!!
Any other advice, and thanks again guys...

Ross, I am very sorry to hear of the problems you are having with your Z and our service department. I will put a call in to Ted (he is our GM) today and have him get all of the info from our service department. I unfortunately will not be in the store on Monday or Tuesday but I will be calling into the store periodically. I appreciate your business and will make things right once I have all the information in regards to your situation. Feel free to give Ted a call on Monday. Once again sorry about the problems you have had so far. Hopefully we can get all this behind us and you can begin to enjoy your new Z. I will be in the store on wednesday if you would like to drop by. If that doesn't work for you I would be more than happy to set up a time to meet with you personally as your schedule allows. Jason

Jason,
Thanks a lot for the reply. I will say that so far I'm VERY impressed that you'd take the time to reply back to me, and so quickly to boot. I'm certainly hoping that I'll be very happy I got my Z from you guys ;-) I really do try to give people the benefit of the doubt about these things, I've just had so many little things go wrong with this car (that have not in any way been Boulder Nissan's fault) that it's been very frustrating. My co-workers are all just sure that my car is cursed - I don't want it to be! It really is my dream car and I just want it to be perfect.
Thanks for connecting with Ted on this so we can get things squared away on Monday. Hell I've had it for 2 weeks and my boss still hasn't seen it because I keep having to have things redone with it. Main reason I almost lost it on Saturday...
So thanks again, I look forward to getting things all straightened out on Monday.

Thanks everyone, it's at the shop now. I dropped it off this morning. I spoke with Shannon (who is the guy yesterday who had the "uh, sorry" attitude, same attitude I got this morning - very frustrating) - I asked him to have someone call be BEFORE anything is done. Since Jason mentioned that Ted would be in the loop I felt a lot better about everything.
I just want my brand new car to look like the brand new car that it is, I don't think that's too much to ask :-)
I'll post back and let everyone know how it goes...
Thanks,
Ross

So I figured I'd give a quick update so everyone knows how they are handling it.
I got a few calls from Ted today (the GM) and he was quite nice, even when I wasn't exactly being that nice (thanks Ted). It's at the body shop today, they had to order the emblems and another spoiler due to all the glue I think. They are sanding and painting the area (about the size of a football) and will be clear coating the entire hatch. After that they are gonna detail it to make sure it looks perfect.
The bad thing is it won't be ready until Thursday so I've gotta drive this piece-o-crap Jetta, but hey, they did give me a rental car so I guess that's a bonus.
So all in all while it sucks that I'll be without it until Thursday they really are doing all that can be done right now. I'm appreciated the prompt and personal attention from Ted and as happy as I can be right now...
I'll let everyone know how this turns out in the end, I really do hope to be a happy Boulder Nissan customer for quite a long time...

Nothing specific, I just don't care for it. I like my 94 Accord a LOT better (this is all meant design wise). I just think it feels cheap and I hate the new body style, looks like an insect to me. A friend has an older Jetta, I think the 03, which I think is VERY cool. It's a loaded VR6 (or whatever the sporty one is) with leather and nice alloy wheels. 100x cooler than the new Jettas, they went from cool and sporty to cheap and lame if you ask me.
Just my opinion - it does have good power and rides smoothly...

ok ok, I guess I better clarify then huh? Didn't at all mean to start any kind of flame war with the VW folks ;-) I'm just not a fan of the new Jetta, I really like the old one a lot (see previous comments) I just think it went down hill with the most recent one. I do really like the Passats and the Tourage - my boss as one and it's sweet...
So no offense meant anyone :-) I really was just *****ing because I want my Z back!

Actually Ross I liked your response to my post. My GTI is an '03 and I too prefer them to the new body styles. In fact, I purchased it in '03 because I did not like the newer body style. At ease boy's -- no wars here!
I took my Z in for the "feather" fix a couple months back, also rented a Jetta for a day. Sorry, didn't feel no love, no hate, no anything. Got me from A to B with no drama. My fortune teller didn't say anything about Jetta in my near future either.
