So, who's going?

Current Entry List shows me in HPDE 3, Sean (Colorado Clark) in HPDE 1 (you should get signed off for 2 that weekend, I'm betting), Joel (jgray) in the Instructor Clinic, and no-one else?!?!?!

Gary, what about you, are you going to have the 944 ready to go that weekend? And is Joanne going to be in scoring, or is she going to be driving?

And wheres our resident expert racer, David M? I don't see him anywhere on the list?!?!?

Anyways, it will be a good weekend, hope to see more there!

I am going to try to make this. But as of this month, my company was sold to a larger one. So we are going through the transition. We are still trying to figure vacation time, and my pay period changes from monthly to semi monthly. So I need to see what the new paycheck looks like minus the benefits I signed for and I need to figure out how PTO or Vacation works now. So if I make it, I will have to make it as a alternate on the listing. When I get paid at the beginning of this month, I have to see if have the funds for registration.

 

I think HPDE 1/2 might be full at this time, not sure, though.

For those of you who have attended multiple David Muramoto Pueblo track events, you are definitely ready for HPDE 2, and might even be ready for HPDE 3. Thats not my call to make, though; you would want to contact Dave Balingit, the NASA RM director, or Keven, the chief HPDE instructor (goes by Ker on the NASA RM forums) and let them know your track experience, both road course and autocross, and they will help you find the right class. If you do this, be sure you are detailed about your track experience, both the number of days, hours per day, passing rules, etc..., in order for them to properly class you.

If you need help getting ahold of them, or need someone to help describe the David M days, or vouch for you, please let me know.

 

I can also add this, that even if a class is full, if you come down and are on the waiting list, odds are that they will let you in. Especially since they are having an instructor clinic, and all those new instructors need student! Joel, that means you!!!

Seriously, if you come down and are on the waiting list, NASA RM will do their best to get you on the track, and even if they don't, the Z/G guys there are great, and more than willing to let you ride as a passenger.

 

The Nissan Sport 350Z T2 racer may make it out to the May NASA event. It's already started and finished two SCCA races. Problem is, the NASA event is the weekend prior to the Miller Motorsports park SCCA Double National on Memorial Day weekend. Logistics and finances are a bit tricky, but if I can get a few things fixed by that point, look for me in TTB and PTB!

 

Yep, I'll be there in the Snyder Motorsports #10 944 Spec car...I just haven't gotten around to signing up yet. Joanne will also be there, but will likely just be working in timing and scoring, as it's doubtful that her ankle will be up to driving.

My car won't be fully race-ready/competitive, as I won't have a chance to replace the 25-year-old stock suspension with the race-spec stuff before the event, but it will be race-legal (aka safety legal), and I'm looking forward to getting some seat time in if nothing else.

And of course it will be great to see everyone again!

Apparently, you know me all to well...

Anyways, Joel is correct. Depending on your track experience, you can start in higher groups. With one DavidM track day, I would say you are all set for HPDE 2. Limited passing, but still a good time, and a great learning experience. Go to the website Joel mentioned, and get signed up.

Even if HPDE 1/2 is full (which I suspect it is), you can get on the waiting list, and they will almost definitely make room for you.

You do have to purchase a NASA menbership, which is $40, but includes a subscription to Grassroots Racing magazine, so that makes it more than worth it.

Now if Gary can pull himself away from his racecar, he'll say something about how fortunate we are to have such a great local track at a minimal expense. Followed by an unpublished book he's written that guides you though every possible brake compound you could install on your Z (I have a copy, second edition has info on wheels).

In the next post David M. will praise you for developing your driving skills and learning what your Z is capable of. He'll then prompt you to consider devoting yourself to racing in lieu of paying your mortgage. It DOES take commitment you know.

After the event you'll likely to get "the bug" and start dreaming of the perfect heel-toe, doing a "confidence lift" at turn 8, and start late apexing into your driveway.

It's so much darn fun that I wish you guys would stop endorsing NASA so much - I want it all to myself! Before you know it, everybody in the SW forums will be there! And stop being so nice and helpful to all the newbies, we don't want them to think that were a bunch of nice guys. They might get the feeling that we actually enjoy each others company so much that we have dinner together and talk about cars and racing stuff. Ok, we do that too... But just stop, just... just. Ugh.

Joel and Dave are 100% right: getting your Z out on a track is crazy fun. The two best comments I have heard that address how fun?

"It's the most fun you can have with your pants on" (heard at Mac Auto Sports).

"It's like crack" (heard form multiple people, all of which are thouroughly addicted to HPDE and racing).

 

I had you in mind when I wrote that.

 

I'd really like to join, but I'm having a couple minor issues. This is my first time writing in the regional forums but I'd love to meet up with you guys sometime....well maybe not in this blizzard Anyways, not to deviate from the topic but are there ANY trustworthy shops around here for our cars? I usually do all of my work myself, but i'm looking at getting new gears and possible a new tranny because of a grind. Sorry again for being off topic, but if you guys have any advice let me know and PM me if we shouldn't cary on on this thread. thanks

 

LOL - great post, Joel! Possibly the funniest total post I've seen on the board.

I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said, as Dave and Joel have pretty much covered it. Anyone who wants to really drive their Z/G, WAY harder than is ever possible on the street, should come to a NASA event and get on track the safe way, with top-quality instruction and coaching along the way.

As has been said, NASA will take you from your first-ever day on a race track, all the way to racing wheel-to-wheel for a national championship at Mid-Ohio (if you want to go that far). It's a great way to learn what your car is really capable of, and you're guaranteed to meet lots of great folks and make some new friends along the way.

 

Summer driving season will be here soon, and I'm sure there will be plenty of meets/drives during the summer for you to come out and meet everyone.

As for local shops, Boulder Nissan and TC's Performance usually get good reviews, as does MAC Autosport. I would recommend starting with Boulder Nissan if you're looking to get your tranny looked at, especially if it's still under warranty.
