Default Colorado Z Meet and Day Tour

It's been decades since we've had a meet, but I'm willing to try organizing one. Back when the Z33 was first introduced, Colorado Z owners had 2-3 meets during the summer to racetracks and mountain tours. Despite the Colorado Roll Call thread showing quite a few 350Zs still around, let's see how much (if any) interest there is with a modest event.

Before summer ends (maybe early fall?), we'd pick a weekend date and meet at a designated location off I-70. How about a drive west up I-70 to US40 and a drive over Berthoud Pass? We'd go through Winter Park, past Devil's Thumb, and onto the road towards Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park, The goal would be to drive the highest paved road in North America in Trail Ridge Road from west to east. Not a fast drive, but certainly a scenic one! We'll finish the drive back through I-36 and back through Big Thompson Canyon or Boulder.

Is there anybody still out there who's still interested in such a one day driving adventure? Your Z will have to be in decent mechanical condition since they're no longer the brand new models we once knew. Post up here and let us know any preferred dates when you might be available.

Good luck with that on here, DM.

Sounds like fun!

Lovin' that pic! Nothing that illustrates our near 50/50 weight distribution better than that shot, eh?
I know Mic just wants to come to Colorado and drive up with us...LOL

Yep, that much should be obvious. You'll recall I told you I lived/worked in Boulder at the start of my career. Driving up to the Divide in a rental car and having my co-worker/roommate tell me, "Hey Mario, slow the f**k down!" was truly a fun time and the scenery amazing. So yep, you bet I'd love to do that.

But alas.... I've driven the Z about 9 miles in the last two months. You really think I'm gonna put another 1,280 miles on it even for an epic drive? No, you give me too much credit. Laff.....

From the Colorado Roll Car thread, there are still about a dozen 350Z owners in the area. Besides bealljk and me, there's gotta be a few others who want to come to this meet. I want to see all of the mods, repairs and even the dings we've suffered throughout the years.

Oh yeah, I want to see the cars, too!

Well, my luck organizing meets has not met with much luck in 2019. Tried this with Titan Talk and ended up with only four guys interested. When the meet was scheduled and held last weekend, it was only me and another Titan owner who showed up. It was the first meet for that group in three years and Nissan even introduced a NEW Titan in that timeframe!

Not saying I'm giving up on a 2019 Colorado Z meet, but the lack of response here (except for Larry) has been overwhelming.

After four weeks and very little response, this thread seems definitively DEAD. No response from anyone outside of Mic (who's in Cali) and beallijk, so I suspect most current 350Z owners are either not on this board, or simply not interested in a meetup. Tried to PM bealljk, but no response, so it look like I'm on my own. Before the snow flies and closes Trail Ridge Road for the season, I plan to drive it this Tuesday (9/17/19) while there's still time to do it!

I've tried a number of times to put together caravans/runs to Sonoma Raceway, Laguna Seca on this forum. Nada. Not really sure what that says but given that 7 of 10 posts here are about Zs with problems, guess the enthusiast activities are pretty much the same as the fossils swimming around in our gas tanks.

Why don't you come out here and we'll do the Santa Cruz mountains on a weekly basis?

Understood- if we had ANY interest, I'd say we could schedule a weekend. But with the lack of interest and if we wait any longer in Colorado, there's a good chance RMNP shuts down that road. It's spectacular, and I'd rather not take the chance of missing a good drive this year.

Today was a good day! Drove across Trail Ridge Road In Rocky Mountain National Park. The Z ran flawlessly, with 103K on the clock.

One of the last days of summer for 2019. One of our past Colorado Z meets reached the top of Trail Ridge and were greeted by driving rain and heavy winds.!It was second gear and sweaty palms until we inched our way off the Continental Divide that day!

Had to post a quick shot of my latest mod: Kenwood DPX593BT headunit replaces my older OEM (Clarion) unit. Together with a USX-200 front amp and MB Quart speakers, it takes my music to new levels.

Good on ya to make it out for a last Summer drive!

Enjoy the ride.

We're taking the newly tuned Benz down the PCH top down for the IndyCar finale at Laguna Seca; then maybe I'll pay attention to the Z after that.

Thanks, Mic! I know you would have enjoyed that drive around Trail Ridge Road, even if road construction and the nature of the road (sheer drop-offs, no guardrails, etc.) kept the speed down. And that sounds like fun driving down the PCH in your drop top Benz, I'll be there in spirit!

I'll bet I would in a proper car. When I lived in Boulder, we drove up to the Continental Divide in our shared rental car (some rental car 4 door sedan). Beautiful. It's been 35 years but being at the Divide was amazing (snow in summer) and while I don't remember the road specifically, I do recall my co-worker waking up and shouting "Slow down, Mario!" Piece o'cake. One day, will do again.

What's that explain? That I'm on the lunatic fringe? Well, I did survive Halloween on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, early '80s.

I "lived" there for only 7 months total, split between 3 mos of initial corporate sales training and two-2 month follow up stints at HQ. The first go-round, summertime. The other two, Fall/WINTER then late Spring following. I still can't drive in snow. Laff.....
