I'm in the mood for dim sum again so if anyone is interested in joining me this Saturday, July 2nd, please add yourself.
Thinking NBC, although they are usually busy as heck. Other recommendations welcomed. Meet at 10:00AM.

Dimsum is chinese breakfast/brunch...usually a cart with different steamed or fried appetizer-like dishes comes around and you pick and choose which ones you like. Most of the dishes are foods you usually don't find on the regular menu. I love it...I always get porridge, pork spare ribs, shumai, as well as a bunch of things I can't pronounce nor do I even know, I just know by looking at the dish. LOL

Things that may scare white people off are tripe, chicken feet, sweet beans, pig intestines, pig feets, etc. They all taste good though when prepared right. Lots of pork products so sorry Jewish folks.

Basically, you sit down, a cart comes by, you pick items off it. It's like all ala carte items. One cart might be steamed items like shu mai, har gow, basically pork and shrimp dumplings. Very good. Another cart that comes by might be fried chinese brocolli, another of my favorites. Some carts have the fried sesame seed *****, more like desert items. And then the challenging stuff like tripe and chicken feet come around and then i wait and go order more sticky rice and shu mai. Anyways, that's basically it, they are appetizer sized foods usually in these metal round plates and you order family style sharing with the people at your table. It's great stuff! The better the place, the more different items they have. You gotta try it.

Ten-Ten was the best, got the seal of approval from the wife and the mo'in-law. Used to work in Cerritos and would eat lunch there weekly.
In Rowland, Hong Kong Palace is always good. We recently tried the New Capital (which used to be Ruby something) upstairs in Diamond Plaza (is it life plaza now?) Prices were not bad, and the service was surprisingly good. They wouldn't ignore you if there is a little cart traffic, they'd go out of their way to see if you want a dish.
We did our organzing meet for Team Transport at HK palace and had about 26 folks there. It was a blast. Unfortuantely, I'm out of town this weekend, or we would definitely have been there.
Cheers, ted

Always a fan of a thread that talks about food, esp dim sum. Is this NBC restaurant far from Irvine? I'm still relatively new to Cali so if ppl have suggestions on places to go then I'll take them. Best dim sum is in downtown Chinatown but Rowland Heights got a lot of good places to. Haven't found any places in the OC tho.
