Default 3 questions...

So I finally have a job lined up and will be moving to CA the first week of June. Can't wait to come back. A few questions...

1. Window Tint: In OR you can only have 35% all around. What's the law in CA? From what I've read, you can have it as dark as you want everywhere but the front driver and front passenger can only be 35%. Is that right?

2. Registration / Personalized Plates: I'm going to have to register my car and pay fees anyway so I was thinking of just getting custom plates. It's only like $40 to register your car for 2 years here in OR. I know it's much more in CA. How much is registration and/or personalized plates?

3. Orange County Rush Hour: I was in the area interviewing last week and didn't really hit much traffic in the AM. I went from the Disneyland area south to the Irvine Spectrum around 8:00AM and back around 5:00PM and it was fine. I assume most of the traffic hits earlier? When's the crunch?

1. any tint in the front windows are illegal. 5% 50% anything....
2. personalized plates are i think 81 dollars 1st year then 40 a year to renew. registration i think depends on the value of your car? not too sure
3. traffic in irvine is from id say 630-830. then about 430-700

I have limo all the way around they USUALLY dont pull you over for tint.but if they get you for speeding it's usually an added bonus. the traffic times seem about right.

I did this a while ago coming from NY to LA.

1) I had 17% tint on all 5 ... no problems at all ever.
2) Registration (Track Model '03) was $252/yr plus $80 for personal plate. If I did it all over again ... I would have kept my existing registration and plates (just keep some form of residency in OR).
3) I don't know ...

cops are pretty harsh on the tinting here in So Cal (especially CHP)....yes traffic blows sometimes its inevitable, people LOVE to rubberneck (ie watch an accident at 2-5 MPH while passing).....and personalized plates i think gimpster was right @ $81

Cool. Thanks everyone.

I grew up in Mission Viejo so traffic isn't a big deal...I just expected it to be worse than it was when I visited last week.

We only have 6 characters in OR so I think I can be more creative with a CA plate. $80/year isn't too bad.

Tint is deadon like everyone stated.

Registration, Check out the CA DMV website it has tons 'O info! It even has an interactive section to check what plates are available and what it will look like on a Cali plate! http://www.dmv.ca.gov

Traffic: Your drive will not be effected to much since you are driving against heavy traffic by traveling South of Anaheim opposed to North. You drove during rush hour and will most likely not change except for Holidays.

Welcome back.
