Default Firefighters and Police Fund Drives

Have any of you received cold calls asking for donations for different groups representing CA firefighters or police organizations? They don't represent any specific city's fire or police depts.

It's fecking annoying how aggressive they are...they won't even let me get a word in and once I even got hung up on when I said 'sorry but no'.

I'm going to do a little research on these ******* to check on their legitimacy. Oh and if you give money once, expect to be cold called 2-3 times a year.

Yeah... i got that call. I donated the first time. The second time i just hung up. The guy calls me back and gives me his annoying cop attitude like hes trying to scare me or something...so i just hung up again.

I donated to the Police Activities League (PAL) and thought it was a really nice program and I felt good about it. But after a few months I started getting calls and mailings several times a year. I rarely donate now for that very reason.

Yeah, I got suckered into donating to Jerry's kids........ figured, ok, not their fault having that handycap. I even went along to drop off the $$ at their "thank you lunch".

Big mistake, I was given a table and a phone and was told the hour I said I would be there ment an hour I would have to call friends and relatives to donate more $$...... I was like WTF!?!?!?!?!??! I told them I didn't bring my pda and didn't know anyones number. So they had these kids (yes... kids!!!!) tell me I had to do it cuz they needed the help! I just handed them the check and walked out!!! Freaking assclowns!!!!!!!!

I still get calls/emails requesting $$$ through out the year... Never again!

Just some advice, since i use to work for the fire dept. up north. If they call to ask you to donate over the phone, DONT. Most likely it is a scam. If you want to donate to a fire dept. or police dept. go to your local fire/police station and donate to them in person and not over the phone. There are station all over the place.

And if someone does call, just tell them you already donated to your local station for what ever they are asking for.
