my neighborhood's gone ****ing MAD this year. every half a block i'm blinded or nearly run into something cuz i'm slack-jawed gazing in awe at the billions of magical twinkly lights........
i hate this year's rage of blow-up figurines though... as if santa needed to be in the same category as a sex toy.

Christmas Tree Lane
Santa Rose Avenue
Between Woodbury and Altadena Drive
Altadena
626 794-3988
Official Hours - 5:30pm-9:30pm (midnight on weekends)
From the second Saturday in December until January 1.
Directions
From the 134 freeway in Pasadena, exit at Fair Oaks. Drive north on Fair Oaks to Woodbury. Turn right on Woodbury then turn left on Santa Rosa Ave.
In 1885 Real Estate Magnet John Woodbury planted 134 Italian Cedar trees (Cedrus Deodara) as a grand mile long driveway entrance to the mansion he would build. Woodbury's mansion was never built and the driveway and trees are now Santa Rosa Ave in Altadena.
In 1920 the trees were donated to the city and department store owner Frederick Nash decorated them with lights to attract shoppers to his store.
Currently there is a Christmas Tree Lane Association that continues the annual tree lighting celebration with over 10,000 multi-colored lights. At the corner of Santa Rosa Ave and Mariposa St. there is a Santa for photo opportunities, along with free hot chocolate and coffee. Listen for the group Christmas carols that entertain visitors.
Try visiting on a weekday when the traffic is less congested than on weekends
