Unhappy transmission-UPDATE.

Bad news !!
This last weekend, after occassional stiffness and difficulty shifting,my car developed grinding going from 4th to 5th.!!
Took it to the dealer today and yes ! you guessed it , ANOTHER 6 spd trans has died, and a complete new one has been ordered....

I wonder how many that makes.... Judging by the "problems forum on this, and other web sites I would say FAR TO MANY...
Jst FYI for you all out there with 6-speeds,be prepared I have 6,600 miles...I also have mild feathering beginning AND mild road noise. AND the window streaking, AND many paint chips.!!! But I still love the car... I think...

I had my transmission replaced several months ago... at about 3500 miles or so. I have a feeling that even the new transmission is going to be replaced...

What is that rule about a lemon? If it doesn't get fixed the 3rd time or something you get a new car?

That sucks. I am not entirely sure if they would just replace the car and if they do I may not get compensated for my upgrades. Check the lemon law in your state.

The same nonconformity results in a condition that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven and the nonconformity has been subject to repair two or more times by the manufacturer or its agents, and the consumer has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for repair

Hmm... does a faulty transmission count as a condition that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury? I can argue that, but don't know if it's that extreme.

If it is so, then that would mean that NISSAN only has 2 attempts to fix it. Then it's a Lemon.

I am not sure if this is true but someone posted this over at Zcar.com:

"I just got the call from Nissan Cons. Affairs my new tranny will be delivered next week. The problem is the 3rd gear is made out of steel instead of brass. The gear is having trouble meshing. Take it to your dealer immediately --- the tranny's are on major back order. Took 2 weeks to get it shipped.

I am on transmission #2... and I have about 2200 miles on it... it never grinded... but now I am getting a faint grind in 4th gear (ugh... and it isn't consistent). I can tell it is getting worse too...

And I know what everyone is thinkin... its "me" because I am on tranny two...

Anyone know if any 350z's have gotten a 3rd trans?

Yeah, I've heard of few instances where they had to replace the 2nd tranny. Here's one:

Mines going back soon for trans # 2... Actually the 3rd one in the car. The first one lasted 4000 miles and the "new" 2nd one got about 8000 miles. Maybe #3 will go 12000 miles.... Do I hear "lemon law"...... j's350z

I'm going on my second tranny and got my Z first week of Dec. with a build date of 11/02. I think WashUJon, recently picked up his Z and has tranny problems. Nissan is basically replacing the entire trannies instead of having them repaired. It sucks to drive my Z right now since third gear grinds really bad and the trannies are on backorder so I will probably be waiting some time.
