They're selling the cars "as-is" with the SR in there. It's YOUR responsibility to know the law and when you get popped for it it'll still be your responsibility, most likely when you purchase the car with the SR they'll state that the car is for "off road use only" to protect themselves.

I've seen cars like this before, they're not in the greatest shape and are usually bought at auctions with salvage titles. I'd steer clear of places like these.

the best thing to do is build a project car yourself with a car thats in pretty decent shape, you will just find a headache buying a battered-a$$ car from somebody else and the problem with really old project cars is your probably going to have to put more into maintenance than the car, you have to take into consideration that alot of these 240's are almost 20 years old and everything breaks

a good thing to have and use is buy PROJECT CAR MAGAZINE by Superstreet they go step by step on how to swap an SR20DET into a 1989 fastback 240sx

i heard with sr20's its legal as long as you dont have the ac hooked up, but not sure. proto motoring, ive heard some shady stuff about them, (not sure if its true) but some of the cars have had some damage, they just replace parts and say never been hit etc

Can't really answer your question but I did see this mr2 on the street once, and the owner seems pretty happy about it, he's one of the few mr2 owners that wave at me before i do.

I was told by another member on this forum the SR20de is legal in cali but det is not. Is this really true? And they are selling a 240SX auto with the KA for 1200 in good condition. I dunno what that really means but yeah. So it is legit for a KA model? Also any other place like this to find a cheap SX or 240Z?

$1200 for a KA auto sounds right. I would get it.

this place used to sell complete cars on their old site. They sell complete cars every once in awhile on zilvia.net They seem reputable.

The SR20 is not legal in the US, nor will it ever be.

just like any other purchases, you have to know what you're getting. now since I've laid that down, I personally know the owner of the shop. they've done a lot of these conversions so they know what they're doing. The owner of the shop actually owned the original Chameleon HKS Supra here in the US and they've been around for a while. they are a chill bunch of people. I suggest that you actually inspect what you want to buy just like anywhere that you buy a car. try it out

i am not directing any of my comments towards their store or any others in general but hypothetically "i would buy a stock project car myself instead of buying a used fixed up older car from someone else - unless you knew the owner"

older project cars are more maintenance

and who ever said an Sr20DET is legal, its about as legal as those OLD MEN on DATE LINE's TO CATCH A PREDATOR

JDM motors arent legal here in CA
no matter how many ways you slice it, bottom line is just make sure your car doesnt draw any attention or you'll get rolled CHP and local authorities who take classes on japanese import engine modifications....

my teammate had a 2000 infiniti G20 w/ an SR20DET, car was clean dropped on 5 zigen FN01R no kit nothing, cop poiinted out the FMIC, BOV, intercooler piping, intake, exhaust and was like this motor isnt made for this car after he popped his hood....

he bought a Z shortly after he sold the car because he got a referee ticket

gluck

I thought the G20 had the SR20 in it? How is that legal? Is there maybe a rwd version of the G20 with out a turbo legal for Cali? Or could I just mount the G20 SR20 like a rwd engine and add a rwd tranny let say off the turbo SR20?

That's the FWD non-turbo engine. When I speak of the SR20, the only one that counts in my mind is the SR20DET.
