Wooo.... CS!
Bring lots of deodorant.. not for you. but for your fellow classmates cuz they gonna stink after hours in the CS lab coding.
first / second years, you should stay on campus to meet people. if you're a xfer student, there are a ton of apartments. i would recommend the ones off midvale and ophir, 400 block of veteran, and 555 glenrock for teh parties.

congrats.. your gonna love ucla, I miss it already and its only been a few months after grad.. heck I even work a block away from school but it just isn't the same when your no longer a student there.
Hmm.. I paid roughly $1350 split between my roommate and I for a 1 bedroom 2 years ago.. on veteran Ave and Wilshire blvd.. right near campus.. senior year I moved out to Santa Monica.. rent was a lot cheaper but had to drive to school... which is NO fun cuz parking is the lose on campus
have fun, enjoy college, I wish I were back in your position.

I have one final left and then UCLA will be a quickly fading memory. Stay on campus (or near campus) your first 2 years. The dorm buildings are nice from what I've seen.
If you don't want to do that, Santa Monica is going to be the best bang (?) for your buck; palms is cheaper but not as nice, Brentwood is EXPENSIVE as is Westwood (for the most part). If you're going East, you'll have to get past about Beverly before the prices start to get reasonable again. But it's way too far (personal experience).

I'm a transfer student. 21 y.o.
3.951 GPA(college)
No news from UCI or UCSD yet.
just wondering though I haven't had any programming experience prior to this other than beginner & intermediate level C programming. Will transferring cause me problems? Or can I just take a C++ course in UCLA and start from the basics?
