Default Why are "In Memory Of..." stickers so popular here?

WTF? What's with all the "In memory of..." stickers on the rear windows of so many SoCal drivers? I and the rest of the driving world doesn't give a damn about your unknown party that has passed on, so why advertise it? Not only is it quite possibly one of the silliest things I've ever seen, it's exclusive to SoCal as far as I've seen. Given I'm still fresh here, but still inquiring minds would like to know...

I think I've only seen it once on the east coast - this is a new phenomenon to me...

they are just paying respects to their loved ones. its like athletes putting their loved one's names on their shoes for gloves. i for one dont have one but i have no problem with people with those stickers

Thats your own opinion. I have had the misfortune of loosing quite a few people over the past year and that is the way "us sticker owners" choose to honor the friends/family that we have lost. Lots of times these people can be very young with tragic death occurrences. When you leave a funeral and you see 150-200 cars with the same sticker... its pretty powerful. You see them around town and its just a constant reminder that we will not forget a person that has made a positive impact on our lives. If you don't like it then great, I understand your intitled to your own opinion... but i recommend you keep it to yourself. Maybe im just a little touchy since this issue hits close to home .... Have some respect.

Ok, I agree with you, thats a bit excessive. Part of recovering from a loved ones death is by moving on. But there are still many other legitimate cases where the death was in recent times and the healing process is not over...and I believe you could be a bit more understanding. Everyone deals with that time of pain in different terms. Hope you never have to experience what I have..

I suppose I'm not ostentatious in that way, that's why I don't understand. To me it's "blingizing" the sympathy card. Nobody on the road knows who the person is, so why advertise it?

In that case, I'd have my eyes covered and I'd run off the road... LOL

I simply asked a question and voiced my opinion. It's nothing more than when you all complain about any other subject. Opinions are like what? Oh yeah, everybody has one.

I have mine on my car to celebrate and remember a good friend that died in a hit in run accident. My friend was an enthusiast. I dont see why it is asnine to remember a good friend. Kinda like the people that would tatoo a portrait of a love on on themselves. When the cops wear a black band over a badge. A flag at half staff.

I rock a different stick. Look at the red stick on my avatar. Hiro stick with my buddies name in remembrance.
