Scott,

Can you provide some more specific details:

Whats the agenda for the 8 hour session?

Whats generally the class size?

Is it one-on-one instruction -- Does each person get an instructor in their car?

Do the participants get track time at the end to practice, if so, how long?

Thanks!

Here's the typical schedule/agenda:

There is a short get-acquainted classroom session for all drivers after tech where we go over rules, etc. After that, first-timers stay in the classroom for a ground school that goes over the fundamentals of performance and track driving. Following that, there is an orientation session on the East Loop whereby instructors take students around for two laps, and then ride with students for the remainder of the session.

For the rest of the day, it's basically alternating on-track sessions between beginners and advanced students (sometimes three or four groups in the morning depending upon numbers). Instructors are available for students on a one-to-one basis for every session (unless there is an instructor shortage). After lunch, the entire track is used for both beginners and advanced drivers.

The last figure I heard was 50-60 students expected, although there can be more. Buttonwillow is 3+ miles in length in the combined afternoon configuration, so there is plenty of room to keep most cars spread out. There are passing zones on a few of the long straights, but no passing in braking zones or turns is tolerated.

If you're new to track driving, or performance driving in general, this is the event for you. It's is very laid back from a competition perspective, so newcomers don't feel overwhelmed. We teach lots of women and teens since the environment is so inviting. I even sent my girlfriend, father and brother through a clinic.

Conversely, if you've done track events before, you should be pleased at the amount of track time you get. There is generally more track time available than some people can stand, believe it or not.

I may not be instructing at this particular clinic due to other commitments, including a private school event there on Saturday, but I'm going to do my best to make it. Feel free to track me down if I'm there.

I hope that this information helps and that you and other Z drivers will join us. Feel free to ask more questions.

Where do you get a helmet? Does it have to be a specific kind? Like, does a bicycle helmet cut it? Do they sell helmets at the track?
