Well it was raining pretty hard, I was driving home on the freeway doing about 60 when I saw an accident on the opposite direction. I started giggling and saying to myself "what a dumb driver", when a couple of seconds later my car started spinning out of control for some reason . All I saw was incoming cars and side rails and my whole life flashed before my eyes. I tried braking but remembered thats not the way to control it, so I kept turning the steering wheel to control it a little. So after spinning about 2 or 3 times in every directions I got control. Incredibly I didn't hit anything, but I swear the rails was inches from my bumper but wholly SH*T!!!!!!!! I was lucky! Anyways I was on the northbound 55 freeway around midnight when this happen. My car is an '05 base Z, I think my tires are worn out or maybe it was karma for cursing at an accident. Has anybody lost it driving in the rain before?

 

I drove through the rain just fine today? Get some new tires, maybe that'll help.

thanx for the concern everybody...you guys are awesome..the rain storm was nasty tonight..I ended up taking side streets doing 30 all the way home..and I was still hydro planning damn rain.

 

check to make sure you don't need new tires, and when you're driving in the rain you really do gotta pay attention to the small little puddles on the freeway. Those things will make Game Over if you aren't carefull. Clutch in, no brakes and you should be able to regain control. Nice job on the save of not hitting anything. I would have been so freaked out if i spun that many times.

 

I too drive an 05 base model without TCS, but my tires are new, I had no issues yesterday EXCEPT my cold air intake was sucking up water because my car started to hunt and jerk and wanted to stall when I got the car around 3000 rpm, I am assuming thats the intake sucking up water and so when I slowed down and shifted earlier it stopped.

Either way good to see your ok! We don't want to see any Z's crashing this rainy season!

 

Glad your alright man, get some good tires for the winter and fall.

 

There are several problems here.

(1) SoCal drivers can't drive in the rain worth crap - I think you all are worse than when it snows in DC;
(2) When it rains for the first time in a long time, all the oil and grime from the road rises to the surface;
(3) No safety inspection here, so people pay less attention to their alignment and tire condition; and
(4) SoCal drivers can't drive in the rain.

The 350Z is a VERY stable car in the wet - so there's very little excuses to be had...

 

I was driving all day yesterday... LAX to Rosemead to Diamond Bar to South Pasadena then home. All I can say is there were at least a few times where I thought I was going to lose control. I need new tires... lol.

 

well said Tires can be a good issue tho, bald tires on any car can make it hazardous in the rain.

If this is true I wouldn't be driving your car. You can blow your motor from hydro lock. There is a procedure to getting the water out of the motor and it starts with removing the spark plugs. People on s2ki.com blew motors left and right from this and the f20c is a much better constructed motor.

 

I was thinking about taking off the lower tube to make it just a basic air intake with the filter being in the motor area instead of the filter being so low (down by the tire), and or getting one of those air bypass valves to prevent this. SOmeone else mentioned that maybe the MAF sensor may need to be cleaned as well as I have never checked that before to see if it is dirty.
