Only a 2-mile stretch is under construction, of that, 1 mile is one lane. They take turns letting groups of cars go through. Ive been through many times during construction. Just think of it as the 5 freeway. Its ok most of the time, and there are certain section which always come to a stop.

We were just down in Palm Desert for Turkey day, and drove 74 to Hemit (sp?) it was a FUN drive lots of curves that banked like no others! We might have to come back down for this and bring both Z's.

I would NEVER take a group over ortega!!!!! It is cop filled and dangerous. Too many cars, too many cops, too many decreasing radius corners, too much construction, and too dirty.

I would LOVE to meet up once you are all over the mountain.
I will take the 76 then through De Luz. Great drive, clean, no cops, and brand new asphalt.

I dont want to try and take over your little run here, but you are DEFINATELY taking the WRONG route!!! If you all went a little south, it would be 10x better run.
Take a pretty drive through the Oak trees. Or take ortega through the construction. I know what I am gonna do

... what are you talking about? Ortega is a fantastic road. I've been through is many times, with groups and without. It is a bit dirty, but only if you use the turn offs. Im still taking ortega.

Also, i have been a bit south. Good roads south mean going to san diego. I have explored all reasonably fun roads in the area. Ortega isn't tops, but it is long and extremely fun. What are you talking about Cops? Who cares? they only wait on the strait aways, and we won't be speeding (at least most of us wont be). I am not condoming speeding of any sort through this cruise. Spirited driving is the driver's choice, and I have no liability in the driver's actions and neither does anyone participating in this cruise. I will not try top stop spirited drivers as well, seeing as it isn't my problem.

Also, I posted this on the rx7 club, rx8 club, and supra owners forums.

. . . . . . . .

Ya, everyone in Orange County thinks Ortega is a good road. That is because it is one of the only twisty roads without any traffic lights. Ask any driver, or better yet, any motorcycle rider, they will tell you Ortega sucks. (unless they are from O.C. and have never looked for any other roads.)

But are you seriously trying to tell me that you like ortega?
Ortega is nothing more than a way to get to the REAL roads.

It is like the people from L.A. saying GMR is a good road. It may be a twisty road, but too many cops, bad conditions, idiot drivers, and a VERY unsafe road.

Dont get me wrong, I love get togethers. And I love driving. But I will wait for you on the east side ortega. There are roads out there that would amaze you. No traffic, fresh asphalt, beautiful scenery . . .etc etc.

Id like you to tell me some of those roads... You talk a big talk, but you dont have any examples to support your argument. What are some "good" roads in southern california?
These are the twisty roads i have driven:
Madjeska canyon (i love this one, but realy short. Very technical and dangerous.)
Santiago canyon (a little boring, but has it's parts)
Live Oak Canyon (great road, short again)
Ortega (Pretty good, long, only that last downhill part is amazing)
Havn't driven GMR, dont realy care...
Willow springs raceway, horse theif mile.

If i lived in sandiego, i would take the 76 to S7 by the henshaw lake. I would'nt even bother with a group. I would have too much fun.

You are getting so argumentitive.
Every road you named are all on the same set of hills. I have lived in Santiago. Drove live oak every day to work. Madjeska is reverse cambered Bullcrap. It is not technical at all.

BTW - I shouldn't need examples. But just for entertainment purposes ;

. you want some good roads. Look at 'murrieta-de luz road. Scandia creek. (--Both in the same hill you drive in.) Sage road. Route 74 in Palm Springs. Wilson Valley road. Montezuma to highway S2. Highway 79, hwy 76, hwy78, hwy 371

And don't try to mention Palomar mountain
