I've read that in order for the car to be deemed a total loss, the damages have to exceed the value of the car. My car was a 2007, bought last year on April 26th. Factor in a year of depreciation, the car probably is worth 22-24k. I don't think my engine was pushed back TOO much, maybe a little bit. The radiator and the radiator support, from what I saw, was a goner.

Taking into account every single body panel was damaged except the driver door, and roof, do you guys think the damages exceed the value of the car?

It depends on your insurance company, but typically if the cost to repair is 75% the cost of the car, then they'll total it. Sometime if the airbags deploy or there is frame damage, that will mean the car is totalled as well.

I've seen cars with what seemed to have very little damage get totaled while what appeared to be badly damaged cars get repaired. Really depends on your insurance company and the adjuster.

There appears to be more knowledgeable people in this thread about this subject so they can fill in the rest.

BTW, why did your airbag not deploy?

A loss of a car really sucks but we simply can not replace a person. After seeing the pictures I am glad you were able to walk out of the accident....

Does anybody know how I would be able to get my parts off the car? I have some high flow cats that I think i can salvage still, but I would need the car towed or something. Does anybody know how this would work?

I'm not sure what their policy is on removing items from the car, but definately try to save those wheels and whatever else you can.

A call to your adjuster or insurance company should answer all your questions.

Some have their totaled cars towed to their house where they take parts off. But if the car is going to be totaled and they are going to cover aftermarket parts, it really isn't worth the hassle.

You should post a picture of what this green Toyota looks like...ie there are different shades of green, and I can't remember what the last generation tundra looked liked. I only know what they look like from going to Toyota's website and seeing the current one. A picture will help a lot. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I think this is sort of a testament to the safety of the Z. Both driver and passenger walked out, passenger didn't have a single problem with him besides his missing monster energy drink that flew and hit the roof. Of course being a low car the Z will suffer the most damage in a sandwich accident versus the trucks..

btw the color was like this one
http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/T...dra/Photos.htm
but not a quadcab, the xtra cab one.. the one that can sit people in back, but not like the one pictured above with full 4 doors.

The aftermath

Your Front end damage brings back memories. In my case a truck cut in front of me cuz he got sideswiped and stopped so I hit him.

My car was totalled. By the way I got the insurance company to cover my mods by showing them receipts even though I didn't specically insure the parts. Their first offer was 17,000 but they paid me 24,000 after I showed they receipts and comps for similar cars. They actually paid me high blue book by the time I finished.

Hope you recover well. My wife had back pain for 9 months or so. I was fine and even the airbag wasn't bad for me. Wish you luck.

Woah..sorry about that man! Your car looks scarily similar to my front end. Yours might actually be worse than mine. Anyhow, i hope they total it. Not only because the car will never drive the same, but because I want a manual now as well. I'm recovering pretty good. My cut on my head is healing quite nicely, and my lower back pain gets less painful as the days go on.

I had a talk with an insurance representative and they said that I need to talk to my appraiser or adjuster to see if my parts will be covered under warranty.

Just a quick question. Was there any in specific that you had to say to have your appraiser insure your parts? Also, what insurance company did you have?

Allen331!

Thankfully you are suffered only minor injuries that you could walk away from!!!

I hope you are ok physically and everything works out ok with your car.

Note to self, if I am ever in such an accident again, I WILL NOT allow the offending party to enter their vehicle and "move it".

First thing I will do is grab my camera and start taking pictures.
