Default Exhibition of Speed /sigh

So ok, I was on Mira Mesa Blvd, and my friend pulls up to me, in a mustang, so it's late, like midnight, so we kinda play for a bit then we both hit a red light. Unspokenly, we launch and go for it, at about 50 mph, I sketch, cause racing on Mira Mesa Blvd is the last thing you want to be doing. As I'm slowing down, BAM! Lights.

So I pull over, cop gives me a stern warning, but instead of Street Racing, I get Exhibition of Speed. So I didn't go to jail and I didn't lose my car. Anybody have any suggestions what I should do? I don't really feel like having 2 points on my record. Any good lawyers or anything I can speak to?

I would count my blessings if I were you. Especially considering you got caught on Mira Mesa Blvd. Thats a cop haven and they are strict on street racing. The cop that pulled you over must have been nice.

I got tagged with an Exhibition of Speed ticket back in my early college days... and it sucked A$$! I don't know if you can get a lawyer to fight the ticket. Need to come up with a real good story.

Otherwise, ALWAYS fight tickets. I've seen too many cops not show up... and thus you win!

Whats the speed limit on the road? If you were only going 50, and slowing down like you said above, then how fast did the cop clock you at? If you weren't speeding there really isn't a case against you. If you were speeding though, your pretty screwed. Try using the "I'm a good driver that made a mistake and can't afford the points" excuse when you go to court.

Don't get a lawyer, you'll be wasting you money. Go to court plead not guilty in arraignment ask for a bench trial. After go to clerks of a subpena the officers information. I can almost guarantee you will never recieve these by your court date. The case will be dropped because you didn't have full disclosure of the case. Odds are the officer won't even show and you'll walk without doing anything though.

I know officers hand out tickets and have no intention of ever going to court. They just play the odds that most people will just pay the ticket. It is very very very easy to get out of simple traffic violations and you dont need a lawyer to do it. I would only recommend a lawyer for someone under 18, DUI, or accident with injuries.

Speeding is not what he got the exhibition of speed ticket for. It's the scratch he did at the line. I'd say hire a traffic lawyer. I had a pretty nasty ticket one time.

When I showed up they asked who wanted a public defender, I raised my hand and he talked to the DA flunky that showed up and within 5 seconds it went down to Expired registration and driving on a suspended license.

A lot of it depends on the court system where you live. I was in SLO county in Cali, but shouldn't be too much different.

There's a lot of good info at this site.

Default Ouch!

Sorry to hear about your ticket. Where on MM Blvd. was it? More than likely the cop saw you and your friend launch (more detail, please), so it doesn't matter what your speed was. Exhibition of speed doesn't necessarily mean that you were speeding - it was the exhibition of it (i.e. your launch). In any case, there are sections of MM Blvd. that are still 35 mph.

If you have a clean record in the last 18 months, they may give you the chance to take traffic school. Just wait till you get the bill/summons. If you take traffic school, you will pay the fine, pay for the class, but your infraction will not go on your driving record.

Keep us posted...

Best of luck...

Maybe. Maybe not.

Cops get overtime when they show up. More than likely they will be there if they're required.

Good luck.

Yeah, it's not speeding, he only has estimated 55 in a 40. It was all about the launch. I guess I'll give that Mr. Ticket guy a call. Yeah, I did get off easier than getting nailed for drag racing. But still 2points I DO NOT want on my record. I'll keep you guys informed. Thanks for the advice.

Were you pulled over in front of Arby's/Wendy's on east bound Mira Mesa Blvd? I saw a Z pulled over a couple of nights ago.

It was a week ago on Sunday, not this last one, but the night before. Uh, I think it was past the Arbys and close to Mr. Wasabe.
