I wanna go to this run, but I had to get a whole new transmission, clutch and flywheel, so I dont think i can make it becuase I've only logged about 120 miles since the install...dont wanna push it.

I did email you but yes that is the place...for those not familiar with the area New L.A. Avenue is where the 118 and 23 change names...If you are going west on the 118 it becomes the 23 south...if you are coming north on the 23 it becomes the 118 east...how's that for confusion

Oh my God, I just read this about an M3 crash in Santiago Cyn.
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=45060
Let's everybody be safe out there this weekend. And don't give me poop if I'm going super slow.

Iris and anyone else that's listening...these group canyon runs are for fun..that means we all drive safely..if your looking to rip up a canyon please do it on your own time..this isn't a run to impress the drivers around you..I've been riding Harleys through these canyons for years with no incidents because we take care of each other..I expect driving Z's we will do the same..Sorry for the rant but it would hurt all of us if anything happened to any of us

Seriously, I've had the VDC go off on several runs. If your VDC is going off, you're going too fast. Instead of carving up the turns like I'm on my way to work, I'm going to be taking up the rear with Iris and will be enjoying the views. And, if you haven't already read the thread Iris linked, please do.

I read the thread regarding the BMW incident in Santiago Cyn. Tragedy doesn't seem to go far enough to describe what happened there. A life was lost, countless others changed forever.
I was going to come back here and post that during this upcoming canyon run, I will be the Silverstone, following the Daytona Blue, following Iris. But after more thought, I think I am going to be the Silverstone staying at home.
Having driven Santiago Canyon numerous times (it's my favorite route from my house in Orange to family in Rancho Santiago) I know how that beautiful canyons' twists and turns can tempt a Z to drive faster then it is safe to do. Fortunately, there are many driveways and cross-streets on Santiago Cyn that bring a safe driver back to reality, in that a person speeding here brings many more lives into danger then just him or herself.
For the most part, this upcoming canyon run does not have those reality checks. Only fire roads (on most of the canyon portions) pose a danger for cross traffic, or entry to slower moving vehicles. I remember after finishing our run there a year ago how I said that I would've never driven those canyons as fast as we had just done, if it wasn't for the Z in front of me showing me that the car could handle it. It was an exciting, learning experience.
I'd like to think that having everyone follow Iris would reduce the chance for someone to drive past their own abilities. For all I know, her 'super slow' speed could be faster then I could handle! But someone might decide that to get their full enjoyment, they need to go faster. And someone else faster then that.
Maybe in the near future we can organize a drive where the temptations to drive fast are further reduced. Where a mistake might lead to a fender-bender, not a loss of life. Where going super slow won't run you the risk of get you pooped on, but applauded.
Maybe you can do this on this run.
One more thing: Be careful with those walkie-talkies. I've never heard anyone else express these concerns, but on both of the drives that I have been on, these devices made me nervous, specifically when used to instruct some one behind that it was safe to pass a slower moving vehicle. The one time where I was advised from a car up ahead that it was clear for me to pass, it was one of the most scared feelings I have ever had driving. I felt pressure from the Z's behind me that I should make the pass, and I had the Z ahead telling me it was safe, although on the winding road I had no clear vision that it was safe. I put myself and my passenger at risk, for not good reason, other then to keep the group intact.
Some people might not like that I have expressed these thoughts. It might appear that I am putting a 'downer' on the event. That is far from my intention. If one person reads this, and takes the drive a bit safer then they may have previously, it is worth it to me to sound like a whining ninny.
Be safe. Drive safely. I look forward to hearing about the drive, and seeing the pictures.
