CHP in full force this week...
First speeding ticket in the Z after 4 years of ownership. The cop saw me as he was writing a ticket for another car he pulled over.
He said I was going 55 in a 35. I didn't think about it at the time (was trying to figure out how late I would be for work), but how could he know how fast I was going if he was in the middle of writing a ticket? He didn't have his radar gun out. He also walked to the front of the car after asking for my license and asked me about my lack of a front license plate. Needless to say, he put that on the ticket too.
Either way, be careful out there! I saw 6 CHP vehicles on the way to work and 4 of them had pulled someone over (including me).

same in AZ, never seen so many cops or ppl pulled over, and my girl got a ticket from CHP leaving SD last month, and now from a bike/laser cop here last week.. cops everywhere.. slow it down and keep a look out.. must be some sort of national or regional push.

That sucks and yes the CHP officer was probably 'pacing' you, but I dunno how he was if he was writing a ticket. Maybe a LEO member can chime in. He wrote up the license plate too, wow they are cracking down.
I was pulled over in Anaheim 3 years ago for speeding on teh 57 (I was well over 80) passing a minivan in the fast lane going slow. The CHP officer gave me a break on the speed (forgot what he wrote) and did not write up my missing plate. Hopefully you can do the online traffic school so you won't get any points on your license.
Edit: It was my first day of work at my companies corp hq too..lol.

yeah, i noticed people getting pulled over a LOT this month. I got pulled over a month ago, but the cop was cool, he let me off with a warning and even admitted his radar gun wasn't on. He DID tell me to wash my car though, HAH! BTW, this is in the San Gabriel/Rosemead area. Did you ask him how he got you for 55 on a 35? Ask to see his radar gun if he mentioned it. You can use that against him in court. The way I see it is, he has no proof against you if he really was writing up a ticket for the other car when he saw you. Good luck, its gonna be a long summer.

I got pulled over in May for the first time a few days before my bday.. I was cruising with no cars around me.. windows down, music on, just relaxing after getting off work and I see a bike cop. I look down and I'm going "57" as he told me, in a 35. He just pointed at me and told me to pull over.. 500 bucks. SH*T.. I just paid that on monday.

Very lucky! I don't usually speed on surface streets. 99% of the time I do speed, it's on the highways. I was just in the wrong place at the right time. My last speeding ticket was over 6 years ago!

I hope it works out to your benefit!
One think I loathe about living in CA...I call this unlawful search & seizure.
I see a gaggle fawk of poorly maintained cars on the fwys everyday, that should not be on the road. But I guess the powers at be can squeeze money from us than some poor guy driving the sh!tty car.

@dvo: lol, and you didn't even comment!
@BornSlippyZ: Thanks! I know what you mean, I've seen a ton of cars that shouldn't be on the road. I'm sure most of them aren't even insured either!
@JDMStanced: I didn't know having a carbon/modified hood was illegal...
@Black Z Eddie: That link isn't working for me, tried it a few times. (Edit: Of course the link works after I submit my post) The CHP was actually on a side street, perpendicular to the way I was traveling. His bike was pointing away from me. I always thought the radar was in front of the bike and one directional? After looking at the one you linked, it looks like that one is also directional, just longer range.
@JAM3Z: hah, we'll see what happens in a few months. He'll probably forget how the whole thing happened.
