Yeah, I do need to try a remote mic next time. I'm just not sure of a good location. I was hitting just over 115mph on the sweeper and 120mph at the end of the front straight. With more practice, I think I can still shave off another couple of seconds. This was my second event here, and with the congestion in the first two sessions, more like my sixth overall session, when I got some clear lap practice.

I'm braking a little too late and a little too long into turn 1, and almost have the cahones to keep the throttle fully flat through 8 ( the best I could muster was about 80% flat, and the remainder at 3/4 or so. The car is handling the best it ever has, so no excuses for the car. There's also more I can get out of turn 9, I think. I was fairly happy with my line on the rest of the track.

nice

best i hit on the front straight was 125 mph, but that sweeper still scares me...~105 mph for me. i've been to big willow once and am dying to go back now that i have my kaaz 2way lsd.

interesting the line you take on turn 4....i always hugged the apex more, but your line seems better....think i'll try that next time.

btw, do you use heel/toe?

Something's wrong with my PC software installation, either Win98 or my video editing software. It's supposed to allow .wmv format export, but it doesn't work. Only real media export works. If it worked I'd be happy to re-export. I'm about due for a new PC anyway. Sorry.

I took a lesson the first time there, and my instructor continually reiterated "Head for the B" (the "B" in the Budweiser sign on the building there) which keeps you wide on entry, and late apexing right at the pylon. What this does is make turn 4 into a continous sweeper (notice I don't change steering angle at all through the turn). It was VERY hard for me to hold off on cutting in too early, as it didn't feel right. But once I took the right line a few times, I saw why it works well, and don't regress to my earlier instinctual urge.

I'm still playing around with heel/toe, but not yet up to where I need to be to make any difference in my driving. What practice I get on the street doesn't translate that well for me at the track, as everything is so much more intense (faster speeds, harder braking, etc.).

Come on out to the July 25 Buttonwillow Performance Driving Clinic if you're searching for more track time and great instruction. There is still plenty of room for more cars. If you haven't driven Buttonwillow before, you'll really enjoy its variety of turns - from tight and technical to fast and wide. And don't forget the 6-Hour Endurance Race the night before.
