Default Need a Good Road to Drive in So Cal

Hey guys,

I live in Laguna Beach and would like to take a nice drive for a day. I know the PCH past Malibu is great, but I'm looking for a nice loop that will take back towards Laguna.

I'm looking for a simple mapped route or drirections that will take my ZR and I for nice enjoyable ride outside of the freeway traffic...

Any suggestions?

If anyone would like to come along, you're more than welcome. One Z is good, but more than one Z is better!

Check out this site: http://www.pashnit.com/motoroads.htm

It's for motorcycles, but it has some great info on California's twisty roads.

If you're looking to exploit the handling capability of your Z, def do the Ortega. I commute on that road. When there are few cars, in the Z (or on my bike) it's absolute bliss.

On weekends, early mornings are the best time. It usually gets crowded by 8 or 9am.

On weekdays, about 10am or 11am to 2pm is the best window.

On any night, 9pm or later with a full moon makes for a nice ride also.

Note to self: Leave the VDC on if you go on a cruise. Go ahead, flame on.

I just got back from driving on the 74 and I must say it is quite fun. The only let down is there are no passing lanes and too many cars! Aaugh!!! (Thankfully most pulled over to let faster traffic pass). I'll have to try it again during the day light so I can have a better look at the roads and Lake Elsinore. Anyhoo, the closer you get to lake Elsinore, the twistier the road gets. I can't wait to try angels crest highway sometime soon. Ahh... There's nothing like exploring a new city.
