Angry Furious at Dealer!!!

I just talked to the dealership who has had my car for a couple days. I took it in because my tranny is making a lot of lashing type of sounds from the gears in 1st and 2nd. This is the third place that I have taken it to that has told me "its normal."

The service guy said that they are aware of it but there is nothing that they can do to fix it. He went on to say that the other 03s that they have on their lot right now make the same noises to verying degrees and wants me to drive them so I can see. My response to that was..."Im sorry if those ones have the problem too, but I own THIS one, and want it fixed".

The service manager even got involved and told me that there was nothing he could do........

Does anybody else with a 6mt experience a lot of clattering around in the first couple of gears?? I first thought it was the clutch, or even the flywheel, but landed on the tranny, which the dealership now confirms. Does anybody have a QUIET one??

Thanks guys, I needed to vent...

This seems to be a somewhat common issue with some Z's. I know I have heard of several people who have had their tranny's replaced. Talk to Han Zolo, I know he's had his tranny replaced at least twice!

Yeah, Ive heard all of thise stories too......mine shifts fine (doesnt grind into third)....its just that annoying clatter. Seriously, If I wanted something that sounded like a gardener truck, I could have bought one and saved 30k.

Thanks for the tip though..=)

I'm not sure what dealership you went to, but I assume it wasn't Performance Nissan in Duarte.

Go there!! Go there right now! They are THE Nissan dealership to go to for anything you need.

Shoot a PM to Jeff@performance or Jason@Performance and they will take care of you.

Unlike most other dealerships, they actually care about their customers and go above and beyond the call of duty everytime.

lol....Ive actually been to Performance Nissan with reguards to this problem under the same assumption that they DO care. They told me that it was a problem with my U-Joint just before my Diff. Since then Ive taken it to two other dealerships and the consencus is that it is in fact my tranny and there is nothing that can be done to fix it. Right before I took it to performance, I e-mailed Jeff, but got no response. All of these things make me pretty much done with Performance unless they would be willing to actually fix something.

risk,

It may well be your flywheel. Mine was pretty quiet, with the exception of the clunk noise it made when you put it into gear (any gear), but right after I put in my Nismo flywheel (my worst mod IMO), it started sounding like a cement mixer. I beleive the stock flywheel has a buffer or damper sping which isolates the engine vibration from the tranny. The noise, at least in my case, is actually the tranny gears rattling inside since they are more directly connected to the crankshaft. Ask them to look into the flywheel buffle or buffer or whatever it's called. Best of luck.

Not exactly the same problem, but I had issues with shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. Had the tranny replaced by Performance Nissan under warranty. One day job. No problem ever since.

Definitely go to Performance.

Yes, but that had nothing to do with the noise. My 6th gear started to grind at about 10k mi.
