SoCal Dyno Day
Great PICS & VIDS...THANKS!!! As you could see no rain could dampen our spirits....Ron - I watched "Meet the Fockers" yesterday afternoon & got a great idea for our next dyno.... Robert Deniro's "Truth Serum"....hah...hah...It was nice meeting you all...till next time.....Jeff Lim (Daytona Blue Z w/ GTC's)

Just goes to show, we all want to be the winner with "SECRET MODS".
Yesterday was a lot of fun. It was cool to see everyone again. The dyno numbers were very surprising. It was strange how those with bone-stock Z's ran in the 245+ hp range whereas those with moderate to heavy modifications were in the high 230's to mid 240's
The other thing that I didn't notice until I got home and checked the dyno numbers in the Dynojet Viewer program is that the hp graphs that Steve was printing out were STD and not SAE corrected. The SAE numbers are significantly lower. I actually got a higher hp result from the last dyno day at Strictly Dyno with a cracked plenum?
I think that my 243 hp was mainly due to my extremely rich A/F ratio. Looks like I need to do some more tuning on the eManage
.
Thanks for the pics and videos! They are great!

Like everyone else, I had a great time at the Dyno day (even if I was the only one with a G35).
I got some great numbers on 2 seperate runs (about 5 hours apart).
Baseline --------235 HP, 231 torque
with plenum ---244 HP, 233 torque
spraying N20 --316 HP, 354 torque
I'm going to change back to a 75 shot and get different plugs before spraying again.
Special thanks to Chris for helping me change the plenum and to Mr twisted for keeping things organized!
How the heck do I insert a picture?

humm, makes me think that i should convert my car back to stock...haha
anywho, it was nice seeing and meeting the peoples there. aside from the rain, it was a very fun day. note to self, buy better and lighter rims

It was defintely a nice day to meet new people at the dyno. I picked up a few new tips and got a chance to see what is a "plenum" mod.
It was interesting to see some of the modified Z's run a bit lower than some of the stock Z's. I suspect that the ECU is rather picky in extreme cold weather and humidity, but I have some homework to do on understanding the Z's ECU.
I didn't have any plans to modify my Z (maybe some nice 17" light-weight racing rims and a REALLY durable street clutch), and after the dyno results, I'm quite content being stock

Someone mentioned on my "eManage installed in my N/A Z" thread about the possibility of the A/F being off due to the fact that when you are normally driving under load the air is being forced into the intake more than on a dyno where there is just a fan blowing at the front of the car? Seems that it might be the case, but as others have mentioned, it could also be that our ECU's like to control everything and therefore compensate over time to the mods you add. Maybe if you reset your ECU everyday before you drive, then you might acually benefit from your performance mods?? I don't know.

After seeing people pinging and blowing out black smoke with their reflashes, I have to say I am not so sure now. Hopefully TS will resolve those issues...

You guys should post the dynos. Just posting peak numbers isn't going to tell us whether a mod is making much difference. For example, having headers may result in substantial increases across the lower RPM power band but may not show huge peak gains. It could be the case that Phalocke's bone stock has great peak HP and TQ but how does the rest of the curve look when compared to someone with mods. And, note that stock numbers have ranged anywhere from 225 to 245 HP and vary between 5AT and 6MT by 5 to 10 hp. Phalocke maybe lucky to have an unusually strong motor.
Sounds like you guys had fun, despite the rain.

No. This was settled long ago. I spoke with someone with Nissan internal about this who clearly stated the the ECU would not decompensate mods.

I'll be posting my dyno graph a little later this afternoon after lunch. I will also post a graph of my base vs. the one from Saturday. It will be interesting to see how they compare.

As far as the T/S flash is concern my fuel numbers were perfect 13.0 @3500 to. 12.2@ 6250 and finishing at 12.4@ 7000
The pinging is more directly related to timing I was told. Tadashi will take care of that when he gets back from Japan.

Exactly, well said -- peak numbers can even vary up to 5hp by just playing with the smoothing on the plot.
