Default Real Estate in TX

How is the housing market going there? Im looking into purchasing some homes out there. Im thinking of Austin, Dallas, or Houston. Im seeing brand new homes starting at the high 100s. How is the property tax down there? High?

I'm building in Dallas area now (Keller) and although our house will be well above average cost for a DFW home it is well worth what we are paying. I just moved down here with my fiancee from Chicago 7 months ago and the house we are getting down here would be worth $600k - $800k in Chicago.

Taxes are pretty high though, we will be paying $8775/year in prop tax...

A regular house in Austin 3 bed 2 bath 1500 sq ft in decent nieghborhood will cost 180-200k. If you want to live near a hill or on one of the hills get ready to start out at 400k. for a regular house but probably closer to 3000 sqft. if you want to live near Lake Travis 500k, if you want to live on a hill or cliff on lake travis then start at 900k if not more.

Pretty soft right now. If you have the $ I say jump on it! I'm a Loan Officer plus I also invest in some. Rising interest rates but there is such a surplus of land here, with low taxes, many predict it will "boom" soon.

i think what txstyle is trying to say is with lower taxes the prices of houses will go up. They are still going to be high relative to most states but a law was signed today that will lower the amount paid for school tax will be cut by 1/3 over the next two years.
