Good choices Quad. You will love the results.

I havent heard the Bassani exhaust but out of all the ones I have heard the Nismo is what I like the best. I am sure you could check out youtube for clips, but I am sure the dyno day would provide some good chances to listen to them in person.

cai's have shown to lose power. it only gets worse... they have also sucked water in to the motor, its quite hard to do but its happened.

cai dont do anything for the g/z but make the car suck air further from the filter and turns it into a water hazzard.

I havent done a before/after dyno, but I can tell you that I sure dont feel as if my car is slower after I put on the CAI... not that it was going to make my car 2 seconds fast in the 1/4, but I would like to see some dyno numbers to back up the statement that CAI's lose power for the Z/G

As far as water... seriously guys comeon. Anyone who has watter sucked in by the CAI needs to be backhanded for driving in standing water that deep. I would need to drive in some deep *** standing water to have that happen to me, and if the weather is THAT bad that we have 6 inches of standing water? WTF would you be out on the road in the Z anyway?

OP, I've did so much homework on intakes when I first got my car, you believe it. Break down

03-06's DE motors = All short ram intakes or stock airbox with k&n
05-06 Revups = Stock air box with k&n, short ram loses power.
07-08 HR's = Stock airbox with k&n, dual short ram loses power.

Cai's, lose power on all models.

Yup, sometimes you'll run across unexpected rains or something unavoidable. Not worth the potential risk. Bypass valves were invented, but they have their flaws. They'll only really work if the filter is fully submerged. You can still hydrolock a motor without submerging the intake.

A freind of mine blew his 06 rev up due to hydro lock. He had the by pass on his nismo and it still sucked enough blow it. He did not run into a super deep puddle it just splashed just right to get into the intake track.

Think about when the piston is a TDC ... less than a couple of OZs will bend a rod.

CAI do have a good sound to them.

you talking about robert?! if so, at least he was able to get a new motor for free thru insurance i think.

i have the nismo w/the bypass so when it rains im VERY careful not to hit any puddles or standing water. but overall, been very happy with my intake.

NEXX what do you have from your research that proves the power loss? Is it Dynos or threads with other peoples opinions?? I guess everyone on this board that has a CAI made a huge mistake...That sure is alot of power losing mistakes out there...

As far as water....my Z rarely sees a sprinkle...I have other options for transportation....

If you really want a CAI go ahead then get it. No one is stopping you, and we're not going to convince you otherwise if you already have your mind set. If you never have issues w/ your CAI, then that's awesome! If you hydrolock your motor, then that's too bad. Modding your car always has risks.

unfortunately the OP seems like a stubborn person who refuses to take advice on the fact that he made the mistake of actually buying an inferior product the the stock system.

https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-nissan-350z/197329-the-top-100-common-questions.html

about halfway down the page, it addresses cai's

"Long tube CAI such as Nismo, Injen:

pro: sucks colder air, (note...so does stock)

con: More pressure losses due to a longer tube. This is a fact of life folks. More bends and longer tube = more pressure losses. In fact, long tube CAI's have even shown horsepower LOSSES on a dyno."

and yes hundreds of people have made this mistake of buying a cai. its not a huge mistake, unless you hydro lock motor. you might lose a pony or two but its not noticeable nor are the gains from a better intake. why dont you go to the exhaust and intake forum and type in "cai" in the search function. you will find an majority of people saying the same **** i have been telling.

unfortunately for you OP, i pretty **** when modding my car. i do a lot of reading before buying anything.

in any case if hope you are happy with your purchase.

Nexx - just saying "dyno's have shown" doesnt mean its truth. I would like to see some dyno numbers on this before I believe it. How man times do we see online someone say "well on the dyno this..." but has no numbers to back it up? I dont think a CAI is going to give you 5-10 more HP on its own, but I would think its going to add something... I guess we shall see at the dyno day coming up

Dont think for a second that I havent searched and read everything I can find on this board as well as google about the CAI... And I think I have just as much cause to question your opinion as I do everyone elses....I just love the condescending "I READ EVERYTHING BEFORE I BUY" here look at this post it proves everything.. My dad is the same way..believes EVERYTHING he reads on the internet....Its not like Im making and change that cant be reversed...If it sucks...I take it off...sell it on Ebay...If it cost me a 100 to play along..big deal...worth it to me...Im not trying to be an *** here. But to respond to someone who has obviously made up their mind and made a purchase by saying "you should have done your research" seems a little...after the fact and shitty to me...I wasnt soliciting opinions on a CAI...Opinions are just like...well we all know that one...bottom line is the Dyno will tell the story...if its good it stays, if not it goes...game over.. I will say this, If I took your comments or intentions wrong then I apologize....

Not really....blahhhhhh
