Default 1qt of oil in 3,000 miles

Hello, I have read most all the threads on the oil consumption issue. I have a 2006 35Z Enthusiast, 6 speed - bought it new at North Texas Nissan Feb 2006. Took it to local dealer and told my guy I thought it was consuming too much oil. Brought it back at 3,200 miles. I checked the dip stick and it was on the "L". Billy told me that it used one quart, and that was in the acceptable range.

I called Nissan USA consumer division, and they said the same thing.

My question: Is one quart of oil in 3000 miles acceptable?

Thanks

Take them a copy of the TSB if they still wont fix it file a complaint with the BBB. Then they will pay attention. That is what I had to do.

+1. Nissan replaced the long block assembly, after getting the BBB involved, and I'm still losing oil. Now, I have an arbitration hearing scheduled for the 4th of September...

Thanks. I just called another dealer, and spoke to the service manager. He said, to come in the morning, and he will start the process. Says he gets paid to go through the verification process, and makes good money to replace the engine. YAY!

I wonder why my other dealer didn't do this?

Also he states that 1qt in 2000 miles (not 3000) is about normal for all aluminum block engines :-/

have you tried a good synthetic oil? try some Mobile 1 0w40 or German Castrol 0w30.

I have always used synthetic. Pennzoil, and now what ever it is that the dealer uses - they call it synthetic blend.

But that's besides the point. 1 qt in 3000 miles in NOT acceptable, period, eos!

I aint gonna say what I will do, if this isn't resolved.

I also aint gonna say that I regret buying a Nissan product - yet!

Glad you got it handled. BYW ask them if 1qt per 2000 miles is normal them why don't the non revup motors do the dame thing, or any of the millions of all aluminum 4 bangers on the road? If that where the case the EPA would be all over every car maker in the US.

i used to burn 1.5 quarts every 3k miles. I added an oil catch can and i now burn 1 quart. Yesterday i switched to mobile 1 synthetic, lets see if that helps at all.

What's an oil catch can? sorry...
I spoke to a guy today that has a Titan, not sure the year, but relatively new. He says his uses 1 qt in 3000 to 4000 miles too.

Is it just Nissan or all of them I wonder...

1qt per 3k miles seems excessive to me. I'll go 4k on my 07 Xterra(VQ40) and not loose any oil. Thats on 5-30 MB1 full synthetic.

I talked to a "Dealer Technical Specialist", that NNA sent to my arbitration hearing, with the BBB. He said that Nissan considers up to 1.25 quarts of oil every 3000 miles, acceptable...

^ sounds like someone doesn't want to take responsibility and make it right. I would be worried about fouling plugs and O2 sensors burning that much oil every 3k miles. Its a piston motor not a rotary.

Oh, and he explained the 1 quart every 1k miles I was losing as this...

At the base of the cylinders, on the engine block, the edges are tapered too far, on the V1 engine... Thus, at high RPM's, oil is getting past the rings, and into the combustion chamber.

The V2 engine, reduces the taper but does not totally remove it, so oil will still be consumed, but not at the same level as in the previous engine.
