Mike...I haven't heard of the pedal mod for the Redline !

I know you can reset the ECU by doing that in a certain way...but not the rev's.

I would think you would need an Uprev tune or Access Port kinda device to change that.

Mine is raised from the OEM to 7200k then the Rev limiter kicks in.

Also your Z doesn't really produce that much Torque/HP gain on the higher end of the rev's...you pretty much level out after 6k....from what I've been told.

I think my redline may be raised as well, but I've always avoided pegging it. I don't like the idea of blowing $hit up. I know my shift light is set at 6600.

Not looking for hp gains - looking for longer shift periods and exit turn revs and staying in gear up hills etc - car does have a lot of torque though - so higher revs are not totally necessary - but sought after to make up for me blowing turns and missing apex's - I do shift a lot at eagles canyon - but i can also stay in 4th the entire track if needed - would be cool to stay in 3rd the entire time lol

also - i was really joking about the contra thing - however that is indeed how i read my codes to find out i had a cam sensor fail

So talking oil temps...

I put my temp gauge in last year using a sandwich plate at the filter. At autocrosses on hotter days the oil temp would be 230-240 degrees. At the track day air temp was 85 degrees out and I hit 265-270 after 2 somewhat hard laps. I think it would have gone a little higher if I kept lapping at a hard pace. This was at the end of day two when Chris and I were out solo on the track. I noticed backing off on the revs and just easing up a bit let the oil cool down some. My water temp never moved from its normal position.

Nice kit and installed pretty easy. You need to get some 90 degree AN fittings to come off of the sandwich plate so the hoses dont point down to far.

No track days since but at the Autocross this summer (100 degrees) temps stayed below 220 after repeated runs.

With synthetic oil I think most guys are fine if your sticking to Autocross or even your first couple of DE. Synthetic oil is considered to be able to withstand 300 degrees so until you start really tracking hard you should be ok.

These two links have some good info if your really into it. The "motor oil 101" is a lot of reading and go's pretty deep into the nitty gritty of oil.

On a side note. Why do I have such a hard time loading picks? These two loaded fine but the third one keeps being rejected. What does everyone else do?

all good info and an interesting location for your gauge - the location of oil temp sensor make any difference? is there a good/bad place?

I use photobucket - for pics - then if i have to reference the pic again its easy -

i agree about the oil, i have a buddy with a 370 and he seems to think that his car is going to break if his oil gets above 220.... albiet - its not a 350.......

I don't know about the oil temp, but I've seen my coolant temp go almost 3/4 on a track in Michigan earlier this year. Never happened before or since, though, but when Mike brought up coolers it reminded me.

Scott - Thanks for the links. Did you have the gauge before installing the cooler to do a before-after? How much extra oil do you put in now?

As for the pics, it's probably because you're trying to attach really big pics and it's timing out or something. Try resizing or hosting it elsewhere.

Mike - Gauges are installed to monitor the temps where you chose to tap, so there are good and "bad" places. It makes no sense to put a sensor right after the cooler, for example, because that info wouldn't be of much help other than knowing your cooler works.

Eric - The reason for the rev limiter is so that you don't over-rev and blow your engine. Hitting the rev limiter won't hurt your car (unless you're doing it for extended period of time frequently). You don't blow going up the revs, but usually during incorrect downshift (5-2).

Scott, if I order this will you help me put it in ? Also what kind of AN fittings do I need ? Also is that the gauge that you have in your car ?

I had the gauge in about 6 months before the cooler. Not sure how much extra oil in all. I lost a bit when I pulled the filter but I think around a qt. or so.

I try the hosting next time. thanks

I'll help you Chris, I ordered the 48 row but the way I have it mounted about 1/2 of it is behind the steel bumper. So I only have about 24 rows out in the air stream. The Kit comes with straight AN fittings but I used 90 degree fittings coming off the filter plate so the hose would be further from the ground when you route it to the front. AN-10, you need two.

Yea the prosport is the gauge I have. It was the best stock looking gauge I could find.

They have two sandwich plates. Basic and one that has a thermostate to bypass the cooler when the oil is cold. I did the thermostate one. The only thing I wish it had was a fitting for the oil temp gauge. I am running a plate for the cooler and another for the temp gauge. I would like to find just one to do it all but havent found it yet. Plenty out there in a basic setup where your always going thru the cooler but havent found one with the thermostate and gauge ports.

Lol Chris I know what a rev limiter is for. I just meant that there's increased risk of problems by raising the limiter and relating on it. I'm just too worried about screwing up.

I want a oil cooler, a better p/s cooler, and a larger radiator. I've looked up things here and there but don't see it as a necessity as of right now. Plus, it's not going to be hot for a while and I don't track here as much, so I figure I'm ok.

i was thinking about putting the gauge out on the hood - and the cooler out on the front bumper........ i keed i keed

seriously though - this oil dip stick is worthless -

Dude, I've actually seen a car with the tach and shift light mounted on the hood before at a drag strip. Would've made fun of it, but he was running several seconds faster than I was..

Drag racing is fun !

Chris took me to Dallas Raceway a few years ago and I loved it....I think I ran a 13.7 sec with a pretty much stock set up and Street tires....wait I had some bolt ons....but still no tune.

It is all about the launch & Hook up with tires.

^ You made some good passes. 13.7 is a respectable time for street tires, imho, especially in the TX heat.

I wish I had some footages of my passes, other than like 6 year old ones. Hell, even my time slips are all gone (personal bests are still saved digitally, though).
