I've been lagging on diagnosing the problem because the situation's kind of depressing and just sucks *****. I actually picked up the kit and the test fluid just now. I'll do it tomorrow and report back with the results.
hey park..... found somethign that might interest ya

^ Yeah, I contacted him last night but he doesn't have a lot of info on the engine and a couple of connectors are broken. I'm waiting on a shipping quote from him.
Do you even have results / diagnostics of what's wrong yet before you jump onto doing the swap? Just trying to look at the best cost effective route rather than spending a lot of money.
So I took care of my license plate ticket, the carrollton Marshall said it is still a fix it ticket and then if you don't its a misdemeanor with $200 fine. Even he agreed it is a stupid law
I'm spending someone else's money in this thread so my comments are frivolous.
Lol I like spending other people's money too. I'm not sure if he's even really looking to spend extra money if he doesn't have to.
I was bored so I decided to take the car apart and work on some stuff.

I just tried to do the combustion leak test but the coolant kept getting into the test fluid. I guess I need to drop the coolant level a lot more. At idle and lower revs, before the coolant screwed up the test fluid, there was no smoking from the exhaust and the test fluid stayed blue. When the revs got higher, I could see white smoke coming out of the exhaust. By the time this happened, the coolant expanded and got into the test fluid again.
Chris - Don't pay for shipping an engine. We can take my truck to pick it up (unless it's in Cali of course).
Also, before you spend $900 plus to replace the engine look at how much it would be to repair yours. What do the results of your test show? Is it most likely just the head gasket?

The test was a fail since coolant kept mixing in with the test fluid. I'm going to drain the radiator tomorrow a bit then try the test again.
The cost would be cheapest if I just replace the head gaskets, assuming there's not other damages from either this ordeal or from using nitrous/racing. However, until things come apart, you won't know if there's any damage to the heads or the block. And even if it's just a blown head gasket, I'd still have to take the heads to get them cleaned and milled. I wouldn't just put them back on without making sure everything will seal up properly.
With so many miles on the engine, it's only matter of time until other issues start popping up. Additionally, my valve covers are leaking pretty bad so they need to be replaced and they're $$$. If I were to take my engine apart, I'd most likely opt to upgrade to HR head gaskets/bolts (requires modifying of the coolant channels) and probably the Pathfinder coolant mod, too.

Seriously, though, we haven't had an official meet in a while. Travlee usually sets them up but he's been lagging.
