Good evening everyone

I have a question.... Drove the Z to work past friday, stopped by the store and then came home. Left the car in the driveway to bring in the goods and then pulled it in the garage. Noticed no problems, no dimming of the lights when I put it up. No slow starts......nothing. Go out yesterday morning and no power. Cant remote unlock, alarm light not blinking. I checked the hatch, its fully closed, light switch off, interior light switch in auto even checked passenger door to make sure it was closed. Any idea why the battery drained like this ? I havent been able to try to jump it yet, its in the garage next to the 240 that does have a bad battery. I will have to push it out to see if it can be jumped.

Could be a couple of things.

Either the battery is old and it's just that time.

or

Do you have any aftermarket audio equipment or alarm hooked up? Anything like that change recently?

I noticed my right front brake seems to have something rubbing against it making a scuffing sound. Seemed like the brake was slightly clamped even though brakes aren't on. I've noticed it before with the car in the air while spinning the wheels I could hear it rubbing a little. I noticed it looked like the pad holder had scraped against the rotor and made some marks. I have it cooling off now so I can take it apart and put it back together and see if that helps. I'm gonna do a search on here and see if anyone has mentioned something similar.

Stu,

How old are the brakes?

And was it doing it before all the work you and Jake just did?

I had noticed it before at random, but I didn't noticed the sound until tonight. Brakes have plenty of pad though. It's almost like the calipers are clamping the brake pads too close even without the pedal being pushed. I took off the wheel and can hear a rubbing/scraping sound when spinning the hub. Sounds metal on metal, but could be brake pad on metal, too. I just can't do too much now because it's all so hot I can't touch much.

EDIT: sounds a lot like this, but I know the outer pin was fine. I'm going to check the inner one soon. https://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-...rake-help.html

I actually noticed before Jake did anything that the brake pads seemed pinched more on the bottom than the top. They were practically touching near the bottom. I never got to try to move them around due to the heat though. It's weird that it's just now popping up as I've been listening for noises.

That's just it... you're listening for noises. You hear alot more when you're trying to find something wrong.

When you take it apart, swing the caliper out of the way and pull out the pads. Then spin the rotor/hub and see if you still hear the noise. That will tell you if it's the brakes or something else.

This is what I will be doing soon. I want to see if the pads have just been mounted a little off. It looks like the pad holders have been touching the rotor though for sure.

Should be fixed now. Back of the dust shield was touching the rotor. There's still a little bit of what sounds like brake pad on rotor with the wheel in the air after everything is put back together but that's what I've always heard. Going to test it now with a drive to see for sure. Also noticed the front tires rubbed a bit during hard turn with a some bumps.

You might hear the pads dragging a little while rolling things over by hand. That's just that little bit of pressure from the caliper pushing the pads to the rotors. I would imagine they would be fine once you got to driving. I could be wrong and it could actually be an issue, but it doesn't sound like anything too serious.

if your rubbing in the front, you should be able to see marks on the fender or innner liner. Glad you got the sound thing figured out - I was thinkin I forgot something but you mentioned you heard it BEFORE I even touched your ride..

loose battery cable - a G35 guy had the same problem for months and everything checked out - even his battery.. I used a battery terminal scraper and I tightened the cables and he has not had the problem since.. just an idea.. its cheap and would start there..

Also - ERIC - Im sure she is ALL OEM and doesnt have any aftermarket stereo equipment - however I could be wrong, but last I remember, she was OEM hardcore..(ie: didnt want to upgrade NADA)

Texas heat kills our car batteries fast.

No added, the car is an 06 with only 14200 mi, but that does make the battery at least 5-6 years old. My only experience with batteries in the past is that you usually get a couple of hints that its not holding a charge. I have had no indication in this instance. Thats what has me perplexed and it is totally drained ?

Hi Jake, I did look, and tried to move cables. They are tight. Are you saying it could be bad contact from debris or corrosion ?

I would get it checked at autozone if you checked the cables already - they will check it for free and see if the battery is still good.
