Default What a way to start the week

I woke up and went out to my car this morning to find my car had been broken into again. About a year and a half ago someone smashed my window and took my radar detector... it was annoying but it was my own fault for having it out in the open, after that I started parking closer to my apartment even though it meant I would start getting door dings, I also took everything I could out of the car except for the avic-d1 since its not easily removable... then about 3 months ago my neighbor caught some kids trying to shove a coat hanger into the gasket on my door and she yelled at them and ran off. After that I started putting a jacket over my AVIC-D1 to make it even harder for anyone to know what I had, but about 2 weeks ago I went out to my car and saw new scrtaches on my window so I knew they were back and trying again. I actually thought about calling my insurance and lowering my deductable since I had a feeling it was only a matter of time they got brave enough to smash the window... well last night they did just that and I heard nothing. arg... oh well, at least I know the procedure with the insurance company now, just waiting for the police to get here so I can get a report.

thanks for letting me vent.

^This is the exact reason why you must have a garage man. I have no problem paying a little extra if it means keeping my investment (my Z) well protected. This is especially true if you live in a not-so-good neighborhood in Richardson (not saying you do).

I too had a similar problem just like your. So after the insurance check came in and everything was replaced, I used the left over money for:

- Fake security face plate (Ebay)
- Viper 5901 2-way alarm (Ebay) or look at your local store if they can do it for $450-$500 installed.
- You also need some windows tint.

get a garge +1

when we moved out it was a requirement that we had a garge - if they didnt provide one then we didnt lease there

+1 on the alarm I have the Autopage alarm which comes with a tilt senor (it prevents anyone from jacking the car up or shaking it, you can adjust the sensetivity to it) another plus it comes with remote start and a turbo timer

If you want to do an alarm let me know, I have a guy who runs a shop and he has installed these alarms on all the 16niss guys

It is worth the money trust me

Yea I will look into a better alarm. I am pretty lucky my insurance covers the stereo and my deductible is only $250. I am living in this apartment because its close my girlfriend's place. She is disabled and can't drive so its very convenient that I live this close where she can walk over while I am at work. There really isn't any place around here with a garage without spending $300-400 more per month than I am now. The place I used to live had a garage but it was about $150 a month more... so 24 months x $150 = $3600 in savings - $500 in deductibles and $300 for my stolen radar detector that wasn't covered (from the first break in) - the potential for increased premiums due to the number of break ins, I am still coming out ahead over $2500 (which I actually saved in an account earmarked for a house down payment one day)

After the first break in I thought about trading my car in and getting a clunker but my car is paid for and I would get killed on the trade in so I figured it was better to just keep the Z and drive it for a few more years.

My lease is up in June so I might just move to a different part of town and get a bigger place with a garage and ...gasp... let my girlfriend move in with me...

Got somewhat good news... my insurance does cover my stereo for replacement of an equivalent model... I have to go through some company called premier audio and they will give me a quote to have them install it or I can take it to my own place, and I also have the option to "cash out" on the price of the quote...

Thanks man... It looks like my insurance company is going to take care of me. They offered to give me an avic-x910bt to replace my unit. I am thinking about just taking the money for now and installing a nav after I move but I have to wait and see what the estimate is going to be. It sucks that those of us with comprehensive insurance have to cover vandals like this. (sorry for raising everyones rates a few cents)
