Default 350z and TurboXS utec

Hi again guys,

So to answer some questions the price I beleive is between 1g and 1200 retail. Tuning is usually 170 an hour and you anly need about an hour. And dyno time is usually about 120 an hour but im not sure if thats included in tuning time.

I had it installed and tuned friday and here are my feelings.

First off, im pretty much stock as far as power mods, just catless injen, and jwt intake.

Dynoed at 245hp and 230ft. lb torque with utec tune. We dynoed without the utec and got just maybe 2-5 hp and tq. from the utec. The utec base map was not very good, for my car atleast.

So the map that was created at P&L only shows a slight increase in power, but the power curve and air to fuel is soooo smooth!

Went out driving, and heres the impressions:

The few horsepower the dyno showed feels like 10-15 for some reason. I felt glued to the seat like never before. I also raised redline to 7200, and when you slam it up there every shift creates a really cool flame out the exhaust. Sounds kinda ricer but i like it!

The main difference though is the smoothness of the engine. If you can imagine being blind and deaf driving the z... Even though the vq is very smooth stock you would know by the vibration when you started to get into higher rpm's. After the tune I swear you would think you were idling when your now at 6 grand. The engine has been smoothed out to perfection. No vibration at all!

The nice thing is that after I install a few more parts I can go back and for 170bucks smooth it out again and pick up more power. I think main reason I didnt see too much power on the dyno is the fact that I need more mods to pull air in the car. It flows out great now but not enough coming in.

Feel free to ask any questions, im out.

Awesome but I would expect better gains than 2-5 w/tqhp. I'm glad everyone is posting their UTEC treads. I'm ordering mine this month. Won't be tuned till Oct due to current location.

Well like i said, i expected more too. Mind you im very close to stock, and the car is tuned pretty well stock. You will see bigger improvements with more mods.

Hmmm I am really curious what a UTEC would do for me, I have one of the more powerful engines I think. I have 3 mods and made 267, so Im now thinking of adding some more bolt-ons and seing how close to 300 I can get. Keep us updated!

if you guys are comparing dyno numbers, please put your dynojet SAE corrected numbers. i doubt you got 267 with 3 mods. the utec is good for a few hp... its not going to make a million hp cause the stock ecu is not that bad in the first place

I dont have a UTEC either. Ref this thread:
https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/194382-some-new-dyno-numbers.html
So yea 3 mods. Even uncorrected made 260rwhp. Good a/f too, as you can see
Edit Dyno Dynamics dyno.

my uncorrected dyno numbers are 270 and 256 SAE corrected on a dyno jet with just a few mods. thats why i was saying you going around braging about your hp numbers, you should get onto a dynojet and give us SAE corrected numbers...

I dont think there are any in my area(reputable anyway). Is there a formula to estimate Dyno-jet #'s? Hell I dont even remember the difference between the 2? My #'s were SAE corrected, but diff kind of dyno. Would be interesting to see what I make on one of those.
Dont Dyno-jets read higher? What are your mods btw?
"my uncorrected dyno numbers are 270 and 256 SAE corrected on a dyno jet with just a few mods"
You lost me. I thought we were talking about SAE corrected #'s? your uncorrected #'s were corrected on a Dyno-jet? Pls explain.

different dynos put down different numbers, the industry standard is the dynojet. i believe that dynodynamics put down slightly higher than dyno jets. i had test pipes, plenum spacer, KnN, pulleys and a UTEC when i put down those numbers.

I dont really know much about dynos so I was looking at this thread: https://my350z.com/forum/forced-induction/123014-dyno-comparison-thread.html. Thats what Im basing all my dyno knowledge from So other dynos correct to match Dyno-Jet #'s then? I talked to the dyno guys and they said the only correction factor was the 1.017 for atmo conditions.

Don't forget it isn't always about "PEAK" power it is the area under the curve of usable power that counts!
