+1 on what Sharif said UTEC is more than enough for low boost and starters its the best shortcut you make with EMS options but am getting AccessPort Tuner too because theres 3 things i can`t change with UTEC Speed Limit/Throttle Body Limiter, idle and some Silly DTCs disable

Just run the black wire to a ground, just that simple.
The UTEC is grounded through the engine harness and the dash mount. It turns out that the engine side grounds are not well seated. This is likely why grounding kits make a big difference on some cars and others don't notice it at all.

If you follow the installation manual, in #16 of the installation manual says the following.
16. Now you will want to use the 12 pin Molex adapter to ground the number 1 pin. The number one pin looking at the back side of the molex connector as if you were plugging it in is found at the bottom right hand side.

17. You will want to ground the number 1 pin to the chassis. In the picture below is the ideal place
for the ground.

I am a long time UTEC owner with absolutly no problems. (knocking on wood as I type) When I purchased it, I purchased it through a shop to which they installed AND tuned it for me. Being the young 19 year old and thrilled with his "Tuned" 350z, I didn't think to get the software (cd, owners manuel, warrenty card, or even original box) that came with the UTEC. I am now older, and wiser and want to begin tunning my UTEC. Unfortinately I don't have the software...
Now I know there have been a few new versions out, but on the website they say to make sure you save ALL of your maps because when you down load the new (I think v2.8d) it will erase all of them from the UTEC. Unfortinately... I have none of my maps. I am currently in contact with my previous tuner to get those so I can have them on file, and then begin to download the new software.
I guess my question is:
A) AM I going about this the right way? Plug in my USB from my computer to my UTEC, make sure my maps (I have 3) are saved on my PC, and then get on the Turbo XS website and begin downloading.
B) Where can I find notes on intro tunning? I understand the concept. I have done SEVERAL data logs with my buddy on his evo. However, these were on 1... a fctory ECU for an evo and the 2nd... was on a Motec. This is just the first time I'M going to be doing it.

sorry for the newbie question but i need a quick answer. hopefully you UTEC experts can help me out...
im in iraq right now and picking up parts for my 04 Z and this guy wants to sell me his utec. by the time i would pick up the utec i would have intake, plenum, headers, testpipes, exhaust. would the utec be a good investment or is there a better EMS for the Z?

I know noone has touched this thread in a while, but i recently bought a utec and the only problem is that the throtte position sensor is stuck at 113% so i have no throttle response when the car is on and I called tech support but they basically said im **** outta luck and didnt really seem to want to take the time to help me....does anyone have any suggestions?

All the files on that disc can be downloaded from their website. I am on my iPhone but I think it's under support utec 350z.

#213
can you purchase an older utec and update the software from that file?
reason i ask is my track car is almost done and its a budget build that i do not want to run a standalone on, this seems to be the only cost effective option for my custom single turbo setup. i havent been keeping up to date on any ems systems really so unless theres a better cheaper option please let me know such as reflash or aem fi-c, etc.

A couple of us maxima owners who have spliced in UTECs have had some issues with the UTEC causing occasional misfires (idle, light load, not when WOT) if the UTEC casing is cold. I've got a solid ground on the case and wiring is all solid, have tried a couple versions of the software including the most recent.
The heater in the car warming it up, or using a heat blanket with a converter (my solution) solve the problem pretty easily, but I am curious if any of you 350z guys have had similar issues with any solutions other than my patch fix.

^No more support from TurboXs for the 350z UTEC? WTF. Anyway, I am experiencing the problems of 2006.
Where Jermaine said: More recently we have had several UTECs cause a steep drop off in power in the 4800-6200rpm rev range. These UTECs run the car fine under idle, cruise, and low load driving conditions. The problem does not manifest itself until you are under load or aggressively accelerating the vehicle. This problem should not be confused with massive knock events and/or poor tuning which could cause the same "symptom"of power drop off. There is no way to "tune this problem out".
Apparently, they concluded the grounding of the UTEC was improper -- can anyone confirm the grounding fix?
I Purchased the UTEC used and installed in 2010. I think it never occurred before becuase the wheels and tires on the car could not hold grip with 440whp and the wheels would spin. Now, with some sticky 295/35/19 on back and 265/35/19 up front, the car grips amazingly well and when I get to 5-5500 rpm at WOT, the ecu gets scrambled, goes into limp mode or something. Anyway, she drives perfectly otherwise (AFTER YOU CUT IT OFF AND RE-START).
So, if you had a UTEC with this issue, did the grounding fix solve the problem?

^^ You're issue is not related to the ground issue... sounds like the tune needs to be adjusted. The MAF clamping voltage most likely needs to be lowered, try 4.6 volts. If the ECU sees too much voltage it'll go limp. Pulling the code(s) should help diagnose.

I am looking for a Utec DIY install guide that includes MAP sensor, Knock sensor and map selector switch install.
Also after latest firmware and software please.
Im doing up a Zeitronix Zt-2 DIY install guide and need to know ins and outs of Utec so i can know how to hook them both up.
Thanks for help guys, The Utec looks plug and play but whats this grounding issue? Is there any other else that needs to be done with Utec?
The Knock Sensor light has 6 wires apparently, six wires, red, white, black, blue, yellow and orange. Where do all these go?
The Boost Sensor, what wires go where?
Map selector, looks like it plugs right in and has a postive (switched or constant? and to where) and ground (chassis, ecu?)
Thanks Guys, im gonna write up really awesome DIYs as there are none anywhere. I just need your help.
