Default UTEC/ECU; Having Trouble Installing Unit

Anybody else have trouble fitting back the ECU and UTEC back under the dash? I can't get mine to fit without possibly breaking something. I already pulled a wire loose. Any help or pics please.

dont do it the way they say, just take out the stock ecu and the utec, bolt the stock ecu to the utec with the studs coming out of the utec, aim all the plugs down towards the ground for later easy access and zip tie it up a few good times...

trust me, its much better

if you have a G35 its even harder

You need to cut a notch out of the bottom bracket for the bottom attachment bolt. It will allow you to bolt the bracket down without having to "force" the entire assembly so the bolt matches with the hole on the bracket.

Hope that helps.

Wish there was a post in the DIY section with pictures of this install.

The UTEC manual covers 99% of it. Cutting this notch in the ECU bracket is the only "missing step". Of course, TXS may have a technique making it possible to slip the ECU/UTEC combo into the footwell without cutting a notch in the bracket, but it is unknown to anyone else. Cutting the notch makes it 100% easier to finish the install.

If TXS added this one step and pic to the manual, then you would have a 100% walkthrough right there. But the rest of what you need is there and very well written.

How true!!! For the G, you might as well throw out the manual. I called TXS, and they said "it'll fit, but you have to figure out how to get it in there."

I mounted it at least four different ways in my G35 before it fit well enough to keep the bottom plastic piece. Just take you time, stay calm, bend anything in the area out of the way, and stick it in there!

It always takes a little longer when its YOUR car!

I wanted some sore of rigidity, as I've spliced quite a few wires in my ECU harness and I don't want any stress on the wires.

If I mount it with the plugs towards the ground, then the rectangular projection sticks towards the glove box and does not let it close properly.

If I mount it with the plugs up, then that rectangular portion that sticks out is higher and does not interfere.

Audible - do you have to modify the glovebox of the G with the ports down?

I don't see any other way. I cut the little bolt off in the back of the G35 that projects out from the firewall (the one up high that is not used for anything) so the UTEC can sit flush back against the firewall and as high up as possible with a tie around the metal chassis bar that goes across the top of the dash.

It's either that or cut off that rectangular projection from the UTEC. Why would they make the unit bigger by doing that???
