Arrow New Haltech and PF Dyno Tune

I've done a few NA bolt-on mods to my G35 Coupe (6mt) over the last few years and always wanted a true dyno tune with a standalone Engine Management System. The new Haltech ECM system does everything that's important to me and seemed a bit more modern that some of the existing systems. I also like that it is a stand-alone and not a piggy-back system.

Jeremy and I talked about tuning my G a few times and he also seemed optimistic about the Haltech. A visit to the Performance Factory was in order!

Lots of people will say that a Haltech is overkill for an NA G35 Coupe... and they might be right... but I think it was a good value and I am very happy with the results! Here's a graph of the very first run and the best run overlaid on top of each other.

I should also note that I have UpRev's Osiris with the rev limits adjusted. The first run on Friday morning was made with only Osiris in place. That makes the new delta between the first run and the last run (with the Haltech) even more impressive.

As you can see in the above DynoJet graph, the peak horsepower increased by a little over 17 whp, and the torque increased about the same. While the graphs are impressive, and what everyone wants to see, the improvement in power and torque is unbelievable impressive. You can see that the delta between the before and after is carried throughout the entire RPM range. There is no question that this improved the performance of my Coupe!

Thanks to Jeremy Tibbs for getting involved with the Haltech system and for tuning my car. Great job Performance Factroy!!! Your hard work was worth it... my red G really flies now.

thanks for posting up JB, i can not believe the gains you can get with full control of everything. its just incredible. i actually stopped tuning NA stock motor Zs and Gs with a piggyback due to the frustration of overcoming the factory maps, i have wasted plenty of time tuning one only for it to switch maps and the whole tune go out the door...

very fun car and the haltech worked perfectly !!

Just to be clear, you had 268 with the Osiris map made for your mods, switched to Haltech and made an additional 17WHP? Wow!

IMO, if people are serious about modding there car an EMS should be at the top of the list regardless of F/I or not.

If you decide to make the F/I jump you have a great head start and in the mean time you know your motors running at peak performance!

Most of my mods are in my Sig, but some of you probably have the Sigs turned off. There's also a link to my CarDomain site with everything on it.

My car is a 2005 G35 6mt Coupe, so it has the RevUp engine.

I have a Crawford plenum, Crawford headers, and Crawford high flow cats... HKS TI exhaust... Z-Tube... K&N filter in the stock air box... that's about it for performance mods. The Haltech and Jeremy's tune were the biggest single improvement of any mod. I think they got a little bit of extra power from all the mods.

Yes, that's correct.

I actually added the Haltech, I never removed the Osiris flash. It is still useful even with a Haltech. As I understand it from Hal, the Haltech can not adjust the rev limit of a RevUp motor unless the motor has been flashed to a higher rev limit.

Other than the rev limiter change, what else is the Osiris controlling now?

Thumbs up

Congrats man. I'd love to go to a standalone. I just need to find a tuner who is experienced with the Z/G platform. How long did it take to dial in your maps? Also did you use the stock map as a base for tuning? You are making power comparable to cammed cars on the board.

Can the haltech control the rev limit on non-revup cars, like a 03 for instance? I was really considering buying this but I dont want to have to drop extra $$ for osiris too. Also I thought standalones took the place of the ECU? How is it that you have an osiris modded ECU and Haltech? Maybe im just used to the ways of the older tuner cars like RX-7's and Supra's.

They are not full standalone. They don't control the rev limit and drive by wire yet.

Yes, the Haltech will control the rev limiter on those cars. The problem is with drive-by-wire in the newer Z's - they shut the throttle body along with the injectors. The Haltech is a complete standalone fuel, ignition and cam timing controller, but leaves the drive-by-wire system up to the stock ecu. So, on the older cars that are fuel cut only, it is no problem to rev as high as you want (we have Haltech Platinum customers revving over 8000rpm all day long) - but on the newer ones with fuel and throttle body cut, it would require a reflash to keep the throttle body open at high rpm.

As for replacing the ECU entirely, it is not as simple as old-school cars such as the Supra. The OEM ecu takes on many more functions of the car than just driving the engine like the older cars. For example, the gauges are all driven by two wires through a CAN protocol, which means you can not just use an RPM output from a standalone to drive the tach.
