Default Sound Performance Review :: STS Turbo and UpRev Tuning!

Hey all,
Wanted to give a quick review of my experience at Sound Performance this last weekend.

I got a hold of Larry and Chris at Sound Performance in somewhat of a bind. I explained to them I was working with another tuner who had a extremely busy schedule and I was super tight on time due to a photo shoot coming up April 26th and the car still needed a week at the body shop after tuning. Chris and the guys at SP sat down with me to evaluate the situation and to make sure they had enough time to properly tune the car and give it the attention it needs from start to finish. I got a message from Chris about 2 hours after I contacted him saying to bring the car in tomorrow and they will get started on it. I was more then thankful and extremely excited

I dropped the car off early in the morning and waited to hear back from them once they opened. I got a early message from Larry letting him know Vince got started on the car first thing and that he had already had taken care of the idle hunting and gotten started on the tuning. Larry explained that Vince was putting extra time into learning the the system and working with UpRev to answer any question they had. As some of you may or may not know I am running a STS Turbo on a upgraded fuel system and a bunch of other mods. I ended up going with UpRev to tune the car and it was a first for both UpRev and STS to have their system used on the current set up. Not only that but it was the first time SP had gotten their hands on the UpRev system. They did know about the system and it's features but they had never tuned or worked with it in the past.

Through out the day Larry, Chris and Tim were available on AIM and gave me updates as I asked for them. I got a call towards the end of the day from Chris saying they had a bit more to do but Vince had put in a lot of time on the car. They said the car would need to stay over night so they could start it in the morning and make sure the cold start wasn't acting up at all. I told them no problem and eagerly awaited the next day(Friday). I don't know if it's just me or the fact I don't go to shops often but I felt like I was in very good hands when I company takes the time to make sure something like a cold start is perfect.

I ended up getting word the car was ready to be picked up at noon on Friday, so I drove over on my lunch hour. Soon as I showed up Tim walked me over to Vince who was finishing up a tune on another customers truck. Vince introduced himself and offered to sit down with me and explain what kind of ups and downs they went through during tuning. I ended up having plugs with a gap a bit to large but other then that things were great. Vince was extremely knowledgeable and couldn't have been any nicer. He sat there and walked us through his dyno pulls on the Z and explained each portion to us so we fully knew what was going on. They pulled the car up for me and sent me on my way with a very modest bill in hand.

Overall my 1st experience with SP was extremely good. Chris and Larry were very helpful getting things setup, Vince tuned my car like a champ and Tim got us paid up and out of there quickly. I can't say enough about my first time dealing with SP. They were great guys and the service was all I could ask for and more. I can't tell you guys enough how much they helped me out to make sure I had my car ready for the weekend and able to get the car to paint yesterday. I am going back in a month or so to tune to 9psi and I look forward to letting pros like SP get their hands on my car again. Again overall Sound Performance was a amazing experience for me.

Thanks Chris, Larry, Time and Vince!

P.S. I asked Vince after they tuned the car with UpRev is the system was all it was cracked up to be. I told him if it was to much of a hassle should I just go to UTec? Vince said I would put UpRev in my car over UTec any day of the week. This coming from the people with the fastest Z in the country and one of the fastest in the world spoke volumes.

Yea, we tuned to waste gate pressure which is 5.7 psi... They ended up at around 330-340 which a bit of blow out due to plug gapping and a few minor leaks. We will turn the boost up next month with new plugs and no more leaks and tune for 400-410hp at 9psi. Very do-able and exactly where I wanted to be. Either way I am having a riot with the car already.

Not a bad number.. I wish you are close to NY so I can see the uprev in person. What injectors do you have?

STS Tuner Kit, 440 Injectors, CJ-Motorsports Fuel Return Kit (stage1) and Aeromotive Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator.

I just want a nice clean 400hp to cruise with. Nothing over that. I will hit it no problem.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the total for everything (turn key)?

PM me if you want.

Thanks!

It varies from car to car I am sure but mine was $200/hour minus the time they took to learn the system and make sure they were ready to tune with it before starting on my car.

Glad to hear you had good customer service with SP and that they got you up and running! They have been very good to me thus far. I am actually on my way down there in a couple minutes to drop off some more parts for them.
