Ok, so I know I'm probably gonna get ragged on, but I picked up a Unichip. Got it used, from another member, and sent it to Unichip to have them reflash it. They said, since this is the older version, it only holds 1 map. So, they installed the "best" map for my vehicle.
Anyway, install was cake. However, now the Z is really difficult to start. cranks for a while, before finally turning over. And also, my steering is really weird. Not loose when moving at low speed or stopped. It's actually very firm. Seems to loosen up a bit when moving.
Assuming that's not normal, what can I do about it? Other than send the Unichip back, and get something else.
Thanks.

Gonna take it out tomorrow... Still having trouble starting, and getting a Service Engine Soon light. Says it's a Crank Position Sensor A circuit malfunction... and takes 2 long starts before it turns over.
Ok. The unichip is out. Steering has returned to normal. No CEL anymore and starts up easily, like it used to. Emailed unichip and am waiting to see what they say
I'm curious though, there was a long gray cord coming out of the unichip that I couldn't figure out. The install instructions didn't say where to plug this in... Maybe it has something to do with the problems I'm having?
Well, I just found out that a cord that wasn't described in the install instructions, is supposed to connect to the crank position sensor. Could be the source of my problems. Will investigate this a little further...

that will fix your cranking problems.
the ecu has nothing to do with the steering. steering is always harder when the car isn't moving due to the friction of static tires verses moving tires.
Ok, I took another stab at installing the unichip today. Actually figured out how to run the wire into the engine bay a few days ago. Anyway, connected it to the crank sensor, and the car runs perfectly again.

good to hear. it's always good when it's a simple problem
