Default Extremely rough idle after engine swap?

I have a 2004 Volvo C70 and I just replaced the engine on it with the same exact one. It has a 2.4l 5 Cylinder with a High Pressure turbo. The mechanics we brought it to turned out to be absolute trash. We wanted them to replace the driver door window motor, along with some other misc tasks. They half-assed it on most of the jobs. Only makes me wonder what they did to they engine. To be honest, this situation is totally confusing and I don't even know the entire story. My mom was the one who organized all this, and now the car is in my hands because she won't do anything with it.

As of right now, the car starts and does drive fine. Except the idle is really bad. It hovers just below 1k and just barely dies. I also notice quite a bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust. I am going to bring this thing to different mechanics soon, but my overall question: Are these things normal for after an engine swap? What should be my main concerns? The reason I know it drives is because I had to reverse it out of the parking spot and then drive it onto the tow truck bay. I didn't notice many issues except for the idle being extremely low, and the smell/smoke coming from the exhaust. Smells like its burning rich.

Welcome, but Trav's point is valid. Every marque and engine type is different and a Volvo five-banger turbo is not a powerplant that most of us have much (if any) experience with. Better to find and register on a Volvo board to get some informed opinions.
